A distinction is made throughout the Da Vinci section (and indeed throughout the site) between the real-life Leonardo da Vinci. In the Da Vinci section, the real-life Leonardo is termed "Leonardo" or "Leonardo da Vinci", and the Voyager hologram is termed "Holo-Leonardo". Holo-Leonardo is played by actor John Rhys-Davies.

All pages have a scroll background image. Pages which are more about Leonardo than Holo-Leonardo have a (deliberately faded) line drawing self-portrait of Leonardo on the scroll background image as well - shown left at reduced size. Though often thought to be a self-portrait, it was probably drawn by someone in Leonardo's circle perhaps his close friend Francesco Melzi to whom, as the Maestro's executor, we can thank for starting the manuscripts on their way to the almost intact preservation they are in today. |
