Description of pictures

  1. Janeway as Mrs Davenport in her holonovel, practising her welcome to the children
  2. Beatrice and Henry Burleigh
  3. Corridor: Tuvok takes Kenneth Dalby to task for doing unauthorised repairs to a bio-neural gel pack
  4. Ready room: Chakotay, Tuvok, Janeway. We learn that there are 47 gel packs in reserve; it is almost impossible to damage gel packs but there is no way to replace them once the reserve runs out; half of the ships critical systems are run using these gel packs. Janeway asks Chakotay to pick out those Maquis crewmembers who would benefit from a crash course in Starfleet procedures, "make them feel like they're part of a team." Tuvok reluctantly agrees to train the raw recruits. Here Chakotay says, "I'll tell them to take it easy on you."
  5. Cargo bay: the recruits object to being selected for this training.
  6. Cargo bay: Dalby objects to Tuvok "picking on" Gerron.
  7. The recruits walk out, disobeying Tuvok's order to remain.
  8. Mess hall: Chakotay talks to the recruits. Dalby says they're happy with the Maquis way of doing things.
  9. Chakotay punches Dalby, which is also the Maquis way of doing things.
  10. Dalby on the floor. Chakotay has got his point across.
  11. Cargo bay: Tuvok to the recruits, "These are your study assignments for next week."
  12. Tuvok inspects the recruits' uniform. Henley must remove her headscarf. Here Chell explains to Tuvok that the medallion he is wearing is of Kazleti design which he got when he visited their planet; the technique took him weeks to learn. Tuvok then orders him to remove it. Gerron removes his Bajoran ear-ring.
  13. Gel pack: "It's your new patient," Torres tells the Doctor.
  14. Doctor holding a gel pack. His diagnosis, "The patient is sick."
  15. Mess hall: Tuvok during a training exercise whereby the recruits use the Jefferies tubes to travel from Deck 11 to Deck 13 via the messhall on Deck 2.
  16. Chell drinks some water while in the messhall. Tuvok is waiting for him by the exit with hand outstretched for the glass.
  17. Corridor: the recruits are exhausted following a 10.1km run. Tuvok tells them, "You may be experiencing difficulty because I increased the gravity on this deck by 10 per cent." He then orders Chell and Gerron to complete their laps.
  18. Transporter room: Torres and Kim find Chell de-gauzing the transporter room using only a micro-resonator which Tuvok estimated would take many hours. Torres says a magneton scanner would "do the job in five minutes".
  19. Kim, on leaving the transporter room, "Oh, you missed a spot."...
  20. ....Chell's expression.
  21. Holodeck: bridge simulation. As Dalby confirms he has command experience, Tuvok orders him to take command during the simulation. The ship is attacked by Romulan war-birds, the crew attack back, but...
  22. ...the hull breaches. Tuvok resets the program. "Your first command together was less than successful," he says. "You are all dead."
  23. Mariah Henley, surprised by Tuvok's solution to the problem i.e. retreat.
  24. Messhall: Neelix uses Tuvok keela flower stems to make a point. Tuvok, "You are saying that the Maquis crew is rigid and inflexible, that they will never adjust to Starfleet rules." "No, Mr Vulcan," replies Neelix in his role as morale officer, "I'm saying that YOU are rigid and inflexible, but maybe if you learned to bend a little..." He suggests Tuvok gets to know his recruits.
  25. Galley: Neelix cooking; holding a plate of cheese which he made from the schplict that Voyager got from the planet Napinne.
  26. Messhall: Neelix replies to Tuvok's question, "Ensign Ashmore asked for something called macaroni and cheese." Tuvok realises that cheese contains bacteria and bacteria spread through the ventilation system.
  27. Neelix explains to officers investigating the galley, "It's just a Laurelian pudding. It has to simmer for 4 hours."
  28. Messhall: Earlier Torres says, "The cheese is full of volatile bacterial spores. it has to stay isolated in this portable containment field". Neelix feels guilty to be the cause of the problems. Torres tells him it's not his fault. She gives the order, "Get the cheese to sickbay."
  29. Holodeck, Sandrine's: Tuvok's attempt to get to know Dalby fails. Dalby tells him, "I don't want to get to know you and I don't want to be your friend."
  30. Sickbay: Doctor, "This is the most pernicious infective agent I have ever seen."
  31. More gel packs fail including the cargo bay's doors and certain communications. Tuvok and his recruits find they're unable to leave for their duty stations.
  32. Sickbay: The Doctor says the gel packs have a virus. Janeway (on the bridge) realises it can be cured by causing a fever, just as in the human body. Torres from engineering tells Janeway that they can raise the temperature of the gel packs by infusing them with a high energy plasma burst from a symmetric warp field (warp field that is inverted towards the ship instead of away).
  33. Cargobay: "This conduit's very hot." The cargo bay gets hot and Tuvok tells the recruits that worrying about a situation they know nothing about won't help them.
  34. Plasma gas bursts into the cargo bay. Tuvok, "The plasma gas will become toxic within minutes. We must leave immediately."
  35. Tuvok orders the recruits to leave via a Jefferies tube, which they do under great protest, as it means leaving an unconscious Gerron behind. Here Tuvok carries Gerron along the gantry.
  36. The Doctor tells Janeway that the infection has gone.
  37. The Doctor's cheerfulness does not impress the hot sweating Kes.
  38. Dalby and Henley force open the cargo bay doors manually and Chell puts a bar between the doors to stop them closing. Here he holds the bar in place while the others drag out Gerron and Tuvok.
  39. Tuvok admits that "sometimes it is desirable to bend the rules." Dalby replies, "Lieutenant, if you can learn to bend the rules i guess we can learn to follow them."
  40. Gerron, Henley and Chell agree with Dalby. The rest of uvok's training programme will be a success.
