Chakotay, holding an engineering kit, strides along the corridor, heading for the Shuttlebay. Torres runs after him and catches him up.

Torres: "Chakotay, let me go." Chakotay, still walking briskly: "B'Elanna, I'm in a hurry." Torres: "I am not out to get myself hurt if that's what you're thinking. I just want to do my job." Chakotay: "I thought you weren't interested in your job any more." Torres: "If that hull breaches, I should be there. I'm still the best engineer we've got."

Chakotay: "Not lately." Torres stops him. Earnestly: "I can do this. I need to do this."

He holds out the engineering kit. She quickly sucks her lip, firms her resolve, takes the kit, turns and hurries down the corridor.

Chakotay smiles as he watches her depart.

Aboard the Delta Flyer: Kim: "40 seconds to launch." Seven: "Powering impulse engines." Paris: "Stand by to bring aft thrusters online."

Torres enters. Kim, surprised: "B'Elanna." Torres: "I heard you could use some help keeping this thing from falling apart."

Paris: "Welcome aboard."

Torres: "Vorik, you're in my seat." Vorik: "Excuse me, Lieutenant." He gets up and leaves. Torres sits down.

Kim: "20 seconds to launch." Paris: "Get that hatch closed." Kim: "Hatch sealed."

Torres is at her post. Paris: "Give me aft thrusters." Seven: "Aft thrusters enabled." Kim: "10 seconds." Paris: "Alright, let's see what this baby can do."

Kim, enjoying this historic moment, the launch of a new ship, starts the final countdown: "5.....4.....3.....2.....1....."

The Delta Flyer launches! launch sequence and dramatic music as the Delta Flyer leaves the Shuttlebay The new shuttlecraft quickly heads down toward the gas giant.

Chakotay enters the Bridge.
Tuvok: "The Delta Flyer is away, Captain."
Janeway: "How long till they overtake the Malon shuttle?"
Tuvok: "At present velocity, approximately three minutes."

Chakotay takes his seat and he and Janeway exchange a look.

Aboard the Delta Flyer. Paris: "We're in." Torres: "Structural integrity's at 92%." Kim: "There's the Malon shuttle - 200 kilometres off the port bow and 3,000 kilometres from the probe."

Paris: "We'll catch them. B'Elanna, how's the hull?"

Torres: "Structural integrity's down about 12%."

The Delta Flyer descends.

Seven: "They are launching spatial charges." They are rocked as the spatial charges detonate close by.

Seven: "Shields holding." Paris: "They want to play dirty. Let's show them what a little Borg-inspired weaponry can do." Seven: "Acknowledged. Loading photonic missiles."

Another Malon attack causes an explosion inside the Delta Flyer. Kim: "We've lost power to secondary systems."

Paris: "Fire." Seven launches a volley.

Seven: "Three direct hits." Kim: "They're losing attitude control. They're pulling up."

Paris: "Nice shooting, Seven." She looks across at him, acknowledges the compliment.

Paris: "I'm taking us down to the target. Harry, get ready to grab the probe." Kim: "Still out of transport range." Torres: "We're losing integrity. 50%, 40......" Paris: "If you can hold us together for another half a minute we'll be within range of the target." Seven: "We still need to survive the ascent." Paris: "One thing at a time."

Torres: "We're losing structural integrity. It's down to 25%." Paris: "Harry, prepare to lock on." Torres: "We've got micro-fractures forming. Aft starboard hull zone 2." They see the microfractures forming at a particular panel.
