Janet's Star Trek Voyager Site

Episode 94 : HOPE AND FEAR : Part F

Torres and Arturis turn, wondering why Janeway is here, and with a security team.
Arturis: "Is there a problem?"
Janeway to Torres: "Evacuate the repair teams."
Torres: "Captain?"
Janeway: "Do it." Torres moves away from Arturis. She and the other engineers exit.

Janeway addresses Arturis: "Explain yourself."
Arturis: "I don't know what you're talking about."
Janeway: "You fabricated the message from Starfleet." She is not taken in by Arturis' pretence at puzzlement. "I recovered the real transmission, the one you said was irreparably damaged."
Arturis: "That's absurd."
Janeway: "Starfleet didn't send us this vessel, and you aren't here to help. Is this your ship?"
Arturis: "Please stay calm. I'm sure there's an explanation."
Janeway: "I tried to ignore my gut feelings, because I got carried away by the excitement of getting home, but you preyed on that, didn't you? You took advantage of our hopes, and I want to know why."

Arturis becomes deperate. "I believe there is a threat here, Captain, but not from me." He points at Seven. "I didn't feel it was my place to make accusations, but I saw her reconfiguring several key algorithms, two days ago, in your Astrometrics Lab. It seems obvious she must've been tampering with the Starfleet message."
Seven: "You are lying."
Arturis: "She's been sabotaging your efforts to reach Earth. You don't have to believe me. You'll find all the evidence you need in her personal database."

Janeway to Arturis: "Evidence you put undoubtedly put there, just in case you got caught." To Tuvok: "Take him to Voyager. Throw him in the Brig."

But Arturis whirls round and throws off the cover to the helm console. Beneath is an alien interface! He slams back the first security guard. Janeway turns and looks pointedly at Tuvok who, understanding, draws his phaser and takes aim.

Arturis knocks back the other security guard.

Tuvok fires his phaser, which burns a hole in Arturis' shirt and knocks him backward for a moment.

The two security guards try to prevent him reaching the alien control panel.

with strength born of sheer desperation he manages to pull down a lever. The whole appearance of the Bridge reverts to what it really is - Arturis' spaceship!

As the ship trembles and interfaces revert to their alien appearance, Arturis and the security guards are thrown backwards.

The helm and main controls - Starfleet facade.

The helm and main controls - morphing from Starfleet facade to true alien appearance.

The helm and main controls - fully reverted to their alien appearance.

A wall control panel reverts from Starfleet facade to its true alien appearance.

The alien bridge's true appearance.
Arturis quickly gets to his feet and busily works the controls on the interface.

Arturis erects a forcefield which traps Tuvok, Janeway and Seven. He tries to jam the transporter beam.
On Voyager Kim reports: "He's trying to deflect our transporters. Stand by."

Kim manages to beam Tuvok back to Voyager....

....and the two security guards.

The transporter starts to take Janeway and Seven....

....but Arturis manages to jam the beam and the transport fails. Janeway and Seven are prisoners!

Kim reports to Chakotay: "I've got everyone but the Captain and Seven of Nine. He's found a way to block their transport!"

Arturis lays in a course. His starship starts moving.
Paris: "The ship's going into slipstream mode!"
Chakotay: "Pursuit course!"

Arturis at the helm of his starship.

The "Dauntless" vanishes from view into a quantum slipstream!

Paris: "We've lost them, Commander."
Chakotay makes a decision. "Tom, bring the warp core modifications online. We're going after them."
Paris: "Sir, we haven't even had a trial run."
Chakotay: "No time like the present."
