![]() | Kim and Paris have donned environmental suits and gone out onto the planet surface. They explore using their tricorder readings to guide them. |
![]() | Paris: "It's almost five hundred degrees Kelvin."
Kim: "Don't worry. The suits can handle it." Paris: "If not, we'll be human barbecue." Kim: "I'm picking up traces of deuterium. 50 metres that way." He indicates the direction. "Let's move." He moves off. Paris: "No sweat." Kim looks back and remarks on Paris' joke: "Lame." Paris chuckles. |
![]() | They see a cavern and enter, following the tricorder readings. They come across a pool of dense liquid. Kim scans it. |
![]() | Kim: "It's coming from inside here."
Paris: "What is it?" Kim: "Some kind of metallic compound, highly viscous, and if these readings are right, its temperature is only," he cannot believe it, "12°??" Paris: "In this environment?" Kim: "Whatever this stuff is it's packed with liquified deuterium." Paris: "Jackpot!" Kim gets out a sample container. |
![]() | Kim: "There's another pool 20 metres that way. Why don't you go check it out while I collect a few samples here?" | ![]() |
![]() | Paris: "Right." He sets off into another chamber of the cavern. |
![]() | He calls out as he moves about. "I don't know, Harry: a couple of lounge chairs, a big beach umbrella, maybe some dermalplast to counteract the chemical burns, and I think we've found ourselves a new vacation spot." When Kim does not respond: "Oh, come on. That was a little funny. Let me hear you do better." |
![]() | Now he is concerned that Kim has not replied. "Harry?" He returns to where Kim was. |
![]() | "Harry!" But there is no sign of Kim. |
![]() | Suddenly Paris spots air bubbles coming up out of one of the pools. "Oh, my God." |
![]() | He reaches in, finds Kim and hauls him out. | ![]() |
![]() | With the effort, Kim and Paris lurch and almost fall over. |
![]() | Paris: "I know it's hot out, Harry, but you picked a lousy time to go for a swim."
Kim, bemused: "I don't know what happened. I leaned over to collect a sample, and it was like I was pulled in." |
![]() | Computer: "Warning. Ensign Kim, an environmental seal has been compromised. Oxygen depletion in thirty seconds."
Paris: "Hang in there, buddy, and I'll get you back to the shuttle." |
![]() | As he helps Kim, he jokes: "Have you put on weight?"
Kim: "You're just out of shape." Computer: "Warning. Oxygen depletion in fifteen seconds." Paris, becoming very worried for Kim, jokes to hide how desperate he is feeling: " I'll make you a deal. You hold your breath 'til we get back to the shuttle and I promise I'll start exercising every day." Kim gasps: "Maybe you should start with the bicycle." Paris rebukes: "I thought I told you to hold your breath." Kim falls. |
![]() | Computer: "Warning. Oxygen depletion in five seconds."
Paris helps Kim up again: "Hang in there, Harry. We'll make it." |
![]() | Computer: "Warning. Lieutenant Paris, an environmental seal has been compromised. Oxygen depletion in thirty seconds." |
![]() | Paris: "You've got to be kidding me. We're in the same boat now, buddy, but I'll get us out of this." |
![]() | But Paris finds it hard enough to keep himself upright. |
![]() | Kim collapses onto the cavern floor.
Computer: "Warning. Oxygen depletion in fifteen seconds." Paris gasps: "You're right. I definitely need to get back in shape." He also collapses. The computer's statement is not heard by them, as they are unconscious. "Warning. Oxygen depletion in five seconds." |

| In Sickbay, the Doctor tries to deal with Neelix leading several crewmembers through the medical lab. The crewmembers are holding bedding.
Doctor: "Out of the question." Neelix: "Be reasonable, Doctor." Doctor: "Take it up with Commander Chakotay. He's on his way here right now." Neelix: "But it's only for a couple of days, just until we get power back in the crew quarters." Doctor: "I suggest you set up camp in the Messhall." Neelix: "The Messhall is full. Where are we supposed to sleep?" Doctor: "Anywhere but here. This is a sickbay, not a dormitory." Neelix: "But you have four empty beds." Doctor: "Biobeds, reserved for patients." Neelix: "You don't have any patients." Doctor: "I may have one in a moment if you and your fellow squatters don't go elsewhere." Chakotay: "You wanted to see me, Doctor?" Doctor: "Oh, it's about time! Mr Neelix is attempting to turn my Sickbay into a flophouse." Chakotay: "We are short on beds for now. We've got to adapt." Neelix to the Doctor: "Aha!" Doctor: "But, what if there's a medical emergency?" Chakotay: "Then Neelix and the others will get out of the way." Neelix: "Absolutely." Doctor: "But, this isn't just Sickbay, it's my residence." Neelix: "And we promise to be the most perfect house-guests." Chakotay to the Doctor: "What more can you ask for?" The Doctor continues to protest. "But, I have a routine. I'm a night owl. What if one of them should snore while I'm listening to Puccini?" Chakotay: "Well, if you feel that strongly about it, Doc, I suppose we'll have to consider other options." Doctor: "Thank you, Commander." He turns and beams triumph at Neelix, but his triumph is shortlived. Chakotay: "For example, we could shut down your program until you're needed. The Captain asked me to look for ways to conserve power and it would spare you from having to listen to them snore." Neelix is amused by the Doctor's lack of amusement at this. Janeway, via comms: "Commander Chakotay to the Bridge." Chakotay, via comms: "On my way." He closes contact. Doctor: "But-!" But Chakotay leaves, and, the matter settled, the crewmembers flow into Sickbay to take it over. The Doctor resigns himself to Sickbay becoming a dormitory. He pretends to make the best of it and comments lightly: "Make yourselves at home." |
