![]() | Janeway is sitting on the sofa in her Ready Room. The door signal sounds.
Janeway: "Enter." ALIEN/"Paris": "You wanted to see me, Captain." Janeway: "Yes. I received a rather disturbing report from Seven of Nine regarding your conduct last night. She claims you were drinking on duty." ALIEN/"Paris": "She's mistaken, Captain." Janeway: "Don't lie to me, Tom. I've checked the computers. You replicated five alcoholic beverages in the Messhall. She also said you threatened her." ALIEN/"Paris": "I'm sorry, Captain. B'Elanna and I had an argument. I was upset." |
![]() | Janeway: "And is that why you were reading my personal logs?"
ALIEN/"Paris": "I wasn't." Janeway: "Seven recited a passage I'd written word for word." ALIEN/"Paris": "She probably accessed those files herself. Captain, you can't take the word of a Borg over mine." Janeway: "This has to stop, Tom. Your conduct lately has been bizarre, and I've heard far too many complaints from far too many people to dismiss them - Chakotay, the Doctor, Seven of Nine - they're all worried about you, and so am I." ALIEN/"Paris": "You're right, Captain. I need some rest. I'll go right to my quarters." Janeway: "Tom. As your captain and as your friend, I want you to report to Sickbay for some tests. We have to find out if there's something physical that's causing this behaviour." ALIEN/"Paris": "This is crazy. I don't need any help." Janeway: "That's an order." He moves towards her. |
![]() | Janeway's voice comes over the comm. to the Bridge: "Security, I need you in the Ready Room, now."
Tuvok takes the phaser he keeps under the interface of his forward console and, together with another security officer, rushes into the Ready Room. |

Tuvok: "Are you hurt, Captain? Janeway": "No. Take him to Sickbay. Keep security with him." | ![]() |

On board the stolen Benthan coaxial warp drive ship, the two victims of the DNA-thief are working to take control of the vessel.
STETH/"Daelen": "The coaxial drive will be on line in a few minutes." PARIS/"Steth": "Good. I've just about overridden all the lockout commands. No offence, but I'd like to get out of your body as soon as possible." |
![]() | STETH/"Daelen": "The alien seems capable of some sort of selective DNA exchange. He absorbs new DNA while depositing his current genetic material into his victims. Let's hope he can reverse that process."
PARIS/"Steth": "That's the last lockout command. We're set for coaxial warp. Let's find Voyager." The ship makes a coaxial warp jump. |
![]() | Voyager in orbit (presumably around the fourth planet of the Kendren system).
ALIEN/"Janeway": "Captain's log, supplemental. The Doctor has treated Mr Paris' phaser wounds but has been unable to wake him. The motive for his attack remains a mystery." |
![]() | In Sickbay, JANEWAY/"Paris" lies unconscious on the primary biobed. The Doctor shows THE ALIEN/"Janeway" a monitor display.
Doctor: "Neurological scans yielded very little but I did find something very interesting in his blood analysis. There are traces of a second DNA pattern in his nucleotide structure, possibly the result of a genetic virus." |
![]() |
![]() | Tuvok: "Could this be the cause of his recent behaviour?"
Doctor: "I don't know. But I'm running more scans to see how this may have affected his neurological functions." |
![]() | The ship's intracommunications system signals. ALIEN/"Janeway": "Keep me informed, Doctor." "She" indicates that Tuvok should accompany her and they leave Sickbay. |
THE ALIEN/"Janeway" and Tuvok enter the Bridge.
ALIEN/"Janeway": "Hail them."
![]() | PARIS/"Steth": "Captain Janeway."
ALIEN/"Janeway": "Welcome back, Mr Steth." PARIS/"Steth": "I know this sounds crazy, Captain, but I'm not Steth. I'm Tom Paris." ALIEN/"Janeway": "I beg your pardon." PARIS/"Steth": "We're dealing with an alien who's some kind of identity thief. He traded places with me. Please beam us aboard." ALIEN/"Janeway": "Maintain your position while we consider your request. End transmission." |

![]() | Janeway enters the Type-12 shuttlecraft, the one that THE ALIEN/"Paris" modified to take coaxial warp drive and which Seven is currently working on. As Seven turns at her entrance, she fires a phaser at Seven! It turns out it is not Janeway - the alien actually switched bodies in the Captain's Ready Room! So in fact it was Janeway (in Paris' body) whom Tuvok stunned with his phaser and who is presently in Sickbay undergoing scans by the Doctor. THE ALIEN/"Janeway" removes Seven's unconscious body. | ![]() |

| On Voyager's bridge, Kim reports: "Commander, I'm reading an unauthorised shuttle launch. It's the Captain. She's in the shuttle Tom's been working on."
Chakotay: "Try hailing her." Kim: "She's not responding." Chakotay: "Hail Steth's ship." To PARIS/"Steth": "Look, I don't know who you are, but I want to know what's happening here." PARIS/"Steth": "Who's on that shuttle?" Chakotay: "Captain Janeway." PARIS/"Steth": "No, I'm betting the alien switched my body, Tom's body, for hers. You've got to let us out of this tractor beam. We can catch her with this ship. Chakotay, it's me!" Chakotay: "How do I know that?" PARIS/"Steth": "The other day, in your office, you told me I turned my life around. Well, give me the chance to prove it. Let me go after the shuttle. It's the only way we can get everyone back into the right bodies." Chakotay: "Disengage the tractor beam." Immediately the tractor beam is disengaged the coaxial warp drive ship races off. |
![]() | On board the coaxial warp drive ship.
PARIS/"Steth": "20,000 kilometres and closing." STETH/"Daelen": "Has he detected us yet?" The ship is jolted by weapons fire. PARIS/"Steth": "I'd say he has." |
![]() | ALIEN/"Janeway": "Gentlemen, I'd advise you to reconsider this pursuit. Killing me will only keep you trapped in those bodies."
STETH/"Daelen": "He's right. We can't risk killing him." PARIS/"Steth": "Yeah, but nothing's keeping him from killing us. Damn, this ship's not nearly as maneuverable as a shuttle." STETH/"Daelen": "Shields are down." ALIEN/"Janeway": "I'm surprised you're so eager to reclaim your life on Voyager, Tom. I was just as disappointed with it as you were." PARIS/"Steth": "Then I guess we were both wrong." ALIEN/"Janeway": "It's time to move on again. Oh Tom, be sure to send my best regards to B'Elanna, hmm?" "She" sniggers. |
![]() | STETH/"Daelen": "He's charging the coaxial drive."
PARIS/"Steth": "Set the sensors to track him." |
![]() | STETH/"Daelen": "I can't. He's blocking us. We won't be able to follow him once he goes into coaxial warp. We're losing him." |
![]() | PARIS/"Steth": "The carburettor! We added a polaric modulator to the coaxial drive. If I can target the modulator, hit it with a chromo-electric pulse, that'll disrupt his engines. Here goes." |
![]() | The pulse hits the shuttlecraft and knocks out its engines, leaving it dead in space.
PARIS/"Steth" signals THE ALIEN/"Janeway": "I hope you still have my box wrench - faulty carburettors can be a pain to fix." |
Captain's log, 51775.2. While the alien intruder remains trapped in the body of his last victim, the Doctor has found a way to return Tom, Steth and me to our own bodies."
![]() | Voyager's Sickbay.
Steth: "Doctor, I can't thank you enough. You've given me my life back." Doctor: "All in a day's work." Steth: "There were times when I thought I would be stuck in that body forever." Paris: "And believe me, I'm just as happy to be back to the old Tom Paris." |
![]() | Janeway to Steth: "What do you plan to do now?"
Steth: "I'm going to take her back to Benthos. I hope to find the person who belongs to that body." Doctor: "But who knows if that's the end of it? We have no idea how long she or he has been switching identities." Steth to THE ALIEN/"Daelen": "It may take a while but I will do whatever I can to find everyone you violated." Janeway: "A security team will escort her to your ship and erect a forcefield to contain her." |
![]() | Paris shows Torres his holodeck program.
Torres: "So this is where you've been hiding, a garage?" Paris: "It's more than just a garage. This is a monument to hundreds and hundreds of hours that I probably should have spent with you." Torres: "Probably?" Paris: "Definitely." Torres: "It's a lovely garage, Tom, but I still don't understand why you brought me here." Paris: "Well, consider it a symbolic gesture. It's my less than subtle attempt to let you in." Torres: "I see, to make it clear that I mean almost as much to you as a-" She reads off the side of the car and pronounces it wrong: "Camaro." Paris: "It's a mint-condition 1969 Camaro. And yes, you mean a lot more to me." |
