Janet's Star Trek Voyager Site

THE KILLING GAME
Episodes 86 and 87
Part J

Turanj is following steadily. When it looks as if Turanj will go past her corridor spur, Janeway moves something so that he hears and he heads toward her. He sees the obstruction, and sees her cowering in a feeble attempt to hide. The screenshot shows Janeway's view of him.

Janeway, begging: "Please don't do this. I can be of use to you. I can help you repair the ship. Don't kill me!"

He approaches closer to make the kill. This takes him into the area where the holo-emitters are not working. His holographic rifle disappears.

At the moment he realises, Janeway rushes out from hiding and clouts him hard with a length of pipe, hitting him in the left side of the neck.

He falls. She picks up a holographic rifle from just inside the area where the holo-emitters work. Seeing her armed, Turanj staggers to his feet and flees. Janeway hurries after him. The hunted has now become the hunter.

Street in Sainte Claire.
Nazi Kapitan, ignoring the Geneva Convention at least as far as the two uniformed enemies are concerned: "Against the wall." Several holo-German soldiers line up to form a firing squad. The Kapitan announces to the prisoners: "Your deaths will serve the glory of the Reich." To his men: "Prepare to fire."

Suddenly there is a commotion. Klingons rush towards them, and burst through the barricade, shouting bloodcurdling defiance.

The holo-soldiers swiftly ignore the prisoners and turn to face the new threat. As they do so, the prisoners escape.

Turanj fetches up at the hologrid breach. To his amazement, as he looks down, he sees the destruction caused by the mayhem.

He sees....

.....that down on the streets of Sainte Claire that a fierce battle is raging. Klingons, holographic American troops and Voyager crewmembers fight hand-to-hand in bloody battle with holographic German soldiers and Hirogen Hunters.

The battle continues.

Neelix, as more and more Klingons arrive: "Fight on, warriors! This way!"
Doctor: "Qapla', gentlemen! Qapla'!"

In his enthusiasm he nearly bumps his head on the swaying cafe sign hanging above him.

The Kapitan and Paris end up locked in hand-to-hand combat and fists fly - not only are they enemies but there is Brigitte's resonance between them. This is to the death.

The Kapitan manages to knock Paris to the ground. His helmet rolls off. Utterly defenceless, Paris looks up and sees the Kapitan fetch out his pistol to shoot him.

Suddenly a Klingon hits the Kapitan in the back of the neck and he falls.

He rolls over and sees death coming for him, in the form of a blow from a Klingon bat'leth.

Turanj turns as he hears a rifle being cocked. Janeway has found him and cornered him.

Janeway: "This hunt is over. Tell your hunters to stand down. I'll use this, if you force me to."

Turanj, furious at not getting the better of his prey, snarls and rushes toward her, bent on overpowering her. She fires. The bullet's impact hurls him backward over the precipitous drop and the injured Hirogen falls the height of several decks, screaming as he plummets to his death.

Janeway moves closer to the breach in the hologrid and looks down.

Voyager's Bridge.
Kim watches the final countdown.

The holoemitters overload and the simulations end. In Sainte Claire the holographic troops vanish. The crew and Hirogen are left in a holoscenario but with no holocharacters.

Chakotay: "It's over. Let's go."

The screenshot shows USS Voyager accompanied by several Hirogen starships.
Janeway: "Captain's log, Stardate 51715.2. The damage to Voyager has been extreme. Both sides have taken heavy casualties, and it's clear that no one is going to win this conflict. The fighting has reached a standstill and the remaining Hirogen have agreed to negotiate a truce."

The surviving Hirogen meet Janeway, who is accompanied by Chakotay and several security guards, in Cargobay 2.
New Alpha Hirogen (the young Hirogen): "What is this?"
Janeway: "An optronic datacore."

Janeway: "You can use it to create holodeck technology on your own vessels. I made a promise with your leader before he died that I would give this knowledge to the Hirogen. Take it."

New Alpha Hirogen: "His ideas were unconventional. I do not share them."
Janeway: "Was he any more unconventional than you are? Calling a ceasefire with your prey? Only a few days ago the thought of speaking with us on equal terms would've been inconceivable, but here we are. Accept this," she pauses and then comes up with the word that might convince, "trophy. You can use it to create a new future for your people. At the very least, you can hang it on your bulkhead."

The new Alpha Hirogen looks at the companion to his right. Then he accepts Janeway's gift and bows his head in acknowledgement, as to an equal. She does the same.

Then the Hirogen turn and leave. Shortly afterwards, their ships part company from USS Voyager for good.
