THE KILLING GAME
Episodes 86 and 87
Part I

 

Voyager's Engineering. Janeway: "These sensors indicate you've placed holo-emitters on decks 5 through 12? No wonder the system breached, you've turned Voyager into one big Holodeck!" Alpha Hirogen: "Can you shut it down?" Janeway: "Yes, but I'm going to have to initiate an overload. We'll worry about making repairs later. Right now we've got to put an end to those simulations." Via comms: "Janeway to Ensign Kim." Kim, on the Bridge, at his station at Ops, replies via comms: "Yes, Captain." Janeway, via comms: "Harry, I'm going to need your help overloading the holo-emitter network. I'm transferring optical processor control to you now. Start charging the secondary power relays. We'll use them to trigger the overload." Kim, already working the controls on his console, via comms: "I'm on it."

Janeway, via comms: "It's going to take some time. There are over 800 hundred emitters," Turanj marches in, rifle in hand, "that we have to-" She and Alpha Hirogen turn to Turanj. The com. line is still open. Turanj: "Move away from the controls!"

Despite the rifle aimed at him, Alpha Hirogen demands: "Why haven't you ordered the ceasefire?"

Turanj fires, deliberately wounding him. Turanj: "Move away from the controls."

Alpha Hirogen: "Listen to me!"

Turanj: "No!" He fires again and deliberately kills his superior. Janeway checks Alpha Hirogen and realises he is indeed dead.

Slowly she gets up, wondering why Turanj has not shot her too. "What are you waiting for?" Turanj: "I am a hunter. You are my prey. Run."

She heads for the door then hurries out. After a moment, Turanj follows.

Fighting on the street in Sainte Claire in Holodeck 1.

Chakotay: "Acknowledged. Out." He puts down the radio-phone. "Our holographic allies are losing ground. The German troops are surrounding the city." Paris: "I don't know how much longer we can hold them off. These weapons are pretty crude. They're not much help." Torres: "Maybe we should fall back?" Chakotay: "Where to? They're coming in from all sides. Tuvok, any chance we can get through that breach in the hologrid?" Tuvok: "Unlikely. Twenty more Hirogen have taken up position near the opening. We're outnumbered."

Chakotay: "How's it going?" Seven: "I'm modifying this explosive device to emit a photonic burst. It will be harmless to organic tissue but it should disrupt all holographic activity within 20 metres." Chakotay: "We'll try to buy you some time."

Next 4 screenshots: Still fleeing from Turanj, Janeway gets into a Jefferies tube. Turanj walks past, but after a moment he returns to it and feels the hatch, speculating to himself on the chances that she has just used it.

Inside the crawlway, Janeway is hurrying as fast as she can, but then she hears the hatch open. She looks back and then hurries even more - Turanj is coming after her!

Voyager's Bridge. Young Hirogen, in command during Turanj's absence: "I'll be in Sickbay." (He is the young Hirogen spoken to by the Hirogen Medic earlier.)

With him gone, Kim surreptitiously initiates Janeway's order. The display reports that the holo-emitters are charging.

Then he initiates the overload. It will be 9 minutes before it occurs - the display starts counting down in minutes and seconds.

Street in Sainte Claire. The Nazi Kapitan brings in more troops, ordering them: "Schnell! Schnell!" Indicating position: "Ja!" (Hurry! Hurry! Yes!) Chakotay: "They're closing in. Seven!"

Seven finishes preparing the Borg-enhanced grenade.

But when she gets up to throw it she is shot in the stomach and sprawls on the cobbles. The grenade rolls out of her reach. Paris tries to reach it to throw it at the enemy but.....

.....the photonic burst goes off!

The photonic burst removes the crew's holographic American troops and holographic armaments.

Accordingly, German troops overwhelm the defending Voyager crew. The Nazi Kapitan orders Chakotay: "Surrender!"

Chakotay has no choice.

Janeway finds the corridor completely blocked. Turanj is not far behind her! Suddenly she notices there is a holographic soldier lying dead there, but part of his legs are missing where they intersect where the holoemitters stop working.

The debris blocking escape.

She drags the soldier back into the area where the holoemitters are and the rest of his holographic legs materialise. She does this so as not to reveal to her pursuer what the situation is. She continues along the corridor to just past the holo-soldier, heading for the debris obstruction.

Holographic German soldiers help up Paris and Seven and put them with the other prisoners.

Kapitan: "Verdammt!" (condemned) His men line up the prisoners against the wall. Pointing at Torres: "Bring that one to me!" She is brought over by a soldier.

The Kapitan tells her: "I will spare your life for now, but only because you are carrying a German child."
