 | Voyager enters a Borg solar system. The crew are at red alert as they approach the Borg planet.
Tuvok reports: "There are three planets in this system. Inhabitants: all Borg. A vessel is approaching."
Janeway: "All stop. Shields up." |
 | Voyager holds position. A Borg cube flies into view and stops in front of the ship. |
 | Tuvok: "They are hailing us."
Janeway: "Open a channel."
The voice of the Borg Collective is heard: "We are the Borg. You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile." |
 | The ship jolts slightly. Tuvok explains: "They've locked onto us with a tractor beam."
Janeway: "Borg vessel, this is Captain Janeway of the starship Voyager. I have tactical information about Species 8472. I want to negotiate."
The Borg: "Negotiation is irrelevant. You will be assimilated." |
 | Janeway turns to Torres, and signals her by nodding. Torres activates the transmission of data. |
 | The information sent includes the images of the alien cells being assimilated by a Borg nanoprobe. |
 | Chakotay watches.
Janeway: "Borg vessel, what you're receiving is a sample of the knowledge we possess. If you don't disengage your tractor beam immediately, I will have that data destroyed. You have ten seconds to comply." |
 | After a tense moment, Tuvok reports: "Their tractor beam is still active."
Janeway to the Borg: "We know you're in danger of being defeated. You can't afford to risk losing this information. Disengage your tractor-"
Suddenly Janeway dematerialises as the Borg transport her off Voyager! |
The Borg transport Janeway from Voyager's bridge to a Borg cube, while the cube holds Voyager in a Borg tractor pulse. (pop-up window)
|
 | She materialises on a catwalk in the middle of the Borg cube's vast interior, a tiny figure among the thousands of Borg drones that line the walls in their alcoves.
The Borg: "State your demands." |
 | Janeway: "I want safe passage through your space. Once my ship is beyond Borg territory, I'll give you our research."
The Borg: "Unacceptable. Our space is vast. Your passage would require too much time. We need the technology now."
Janeway: "If I give it to you now, you'll assimilate us."
The Borg: "Species 8472 must be stopped. Our survival is your survival. Give us the technology."
Janeway: "No. Safe passage first. Or no deal."
The Borg: "Your demand is unacceptable." |
The Borg: "State your proposal."
Janeway: "Let's work together, combine our resources. Even if we do give you the technology now, you're still going to need time to develop it. By working together, we can create a weapon more quickly. If you escort us through your space we can perfect the weapon as we-"
Suddenly the Borg cube shakes! The movement makes Janeway partly lose her balance and her head is flung forward over the railing before she recovers.
 | What is happening is that a bio-ship is attacking the Borg cube! The assault is shaking both the Borg cube and Voyager. |
 | The Borg cube sustains damage. |
 | On Voyager's bridge Chakotay demands: "Where did that ship come from?"
Tuvok: "A quantum singularity has appeared 20,000 kilometres away. The bio-ship is heading directly toward the planet."
Torres: "The Borg shields are weakening. We might be able to break free of the tractor beam."
Chakotay: "Can you get a lock on the Captain?" |
 | Tuvok: "Not yet."
Paris: "Commander, there are nine more bio-ships coming out of the singularity!" |
 | As the Species 8472 bio-ships gather, the Borg Collective informs Janeway: "We have made our decision." |
 | A number of Species 8472 bio-ships head for the Borg planet. In formation, eight of them, one by one feed a tendril of glowing energy toward the central ship which acts as a focus and concentrates all the combined energy toward the Borg planet. |
Species 8472 bio-ships combine weapons to fire a devastating blast at a Borg planet. (pop-up window)
|
 | The massive beam of energy bombards the Borg planet. |
 | Fire and debris from the explosions blows out into space, and the maelstrom begins to catch Voyager, which is still held with the Borg cube's tractor pulse. |
 | The shower of molten debris poses a threat to Voyager and the Borg cube! |
 | Janeway: "What's going on?" |
 | Eventually the planet explodes in a gigantic blast! |
 | The surviving Borg cubes flee at top speed. |
 | Voyager, still in the Borg cube's tractor pulse, is taken along too. |
 | The Borg cube races into the distance, taking Voyager with it! |
This is where Part One of the story ends, as aired on television, ending Season 3.
