 | Chakotay and Tuvok are summoned by Kim's urgent voice. "Commander!" |
 | They reach Kim, who is standing in the corridor, tricorder open.
Kim: "There's something in here with us, and it's not the Borg. I can't localise it, but it's within twenty metres."
Tuvok: "Perhaps the pilot has returned." |
Janeway, via comms: "Voyager to away team."
combadge Chakotay: "Go ahead."
Janeway: "Stand by for transport. We're getting you out of there."
Chakotay, via comms: "Good idea."
Janeway to Torres, who is operating the Ops console: "Energise."
Torres activates the controls but it beeps an alert sound. "I can't get a lock on them."
Janeway: "What's the problem?"
Torres: "It looks like bio-electric interference from whatever's coming toward them." | |
 | In the Borg cube, the away team can hear more scrapes and ominous sounds.
Chakotay: "It's within seven metres. Let's get out of here."
They hurry away down the corridor. |
On Voyager's bridge, Janeway tells Torres: "Narrow the confinement beam."
Torres does so. "No effect. I'm going to try a skeletal lock."
Janeway: "A what?"
Torres: "I think I can get a clean lock on the minerals in their bone tissue. I just came up with it, but I think it might work."
 | On the Borg cube Borg drones and the away team alike are in retreat from the unknown lifeform. |
 | Chakotay checks his tricorder again. "The lifeform's five metres away, closing."
Kim: "From where?" |
 | Suddenly beside them there is an explosion as the wall and Borg equipment explodes outwards in a shower of sparks and debris! In a violent blur of motion we glimpse a large alien. |
 | It swiftly attacks and fells the two Borg drones near the away team. |
 | The back of the top part of the alien. |
 | The alien looks round. |
 | Kim, on the floor nearby, looks up to see the huge alien standing over the dead Borg drones. It towers over ten feet tall. |
 | It lunges at Kim, slashing at him and sending him backwards onto the floor. |
 | He screams in agony. This is the image which Kes saw in her mind earlier. |
 | He, Chakotay and Tuvok dematerialise as they are beamed back to Voyager. |
 | The alien stands over where they were. |
An alien appears and strikes down Harry Kim. As he lies screaming he and the away team are beamed out, just as the alien bounds after them. (pop-up window)
|
 | On Voyager, Torres reports: "Ive got them."
Janeway: "A skeletal lock, huh? We'll have to add that one to the transporter manual." |
 | Paris draws Janeway's attention to the viewscreen: "Captain! The bio-ship is powering up, like it's charging some kind of weapon."
On the main viewscreen, they see the bio-ship which is attached to the Borg cube. The alien vessel begins to shimmer with incandescent colours. |
 | Kes, who is on the Bridge, is hit by another mental flash, this time of the alien's face! | |
 | Janeway: "Get us out of here - maximum warp!"
As Voyager turns away from the Borg graveyard.... |
 | ....the alien bio-ship sends out a crackling tendril of energy, whip-like, powerful. (It is the same weapon that we saw destroy Borg cubes in the story's prologue or 'teaser'.) |
 | The energy tendril narrowly misses Voyager but even so it strikes the ship's shields.... |
 | ....and sends the starship spinning wildly! |
As Voyager flees a graveyard of Borg cubes destroyed by Species 8472, a Species 8472 bio-ship opens fire, sending Voyager into a spin. (pop-up window)
|
On the Bridge, people are hurled about. Torres is thrown to the floor but manages with an effort to regain her post.
 | Paris is temporarily knocked forward over his console. As soon as the ship stops spinning he regains control. He takes Voyager to warp and so the ship escapes.
Paris: "The alien ship is not pursuing." |
 | Janeway: "Kes?"
Kes: "I could hear its thoughts - the pilot of the bio-ship was trying to communicate with me. They're a telepathic species. I've been aware of them for some time now - the premonitions. Captain, it's not the Borg that we should be worried about - it's them."
Janeway: "What did it say to you?"
Kes: "It said: 'The weak will perish.'" |
