THE SWARM

Bridge. Paris: "Captain, they're right on top of us. I can't shake them." Voyager is jolted. Tuvok reports: "Captain, they are clamping onto our hull." Chakotay: "They're starting to drain our systems." It is happening the same way that Chardis' ship was attacked!

Kim: "Captain, I've got a pattern on the interferometric pulse. It's a lattice, connecting all the ships to each other." Janeway: "Alright. Here's what we're going to do. Turn those pulses right back on them. Tuvok, lock phasers on their nearest ship. If we can destroy one of them there's every chance the interferometric pulse that links them together will cause a chain reaction." Tuvok: "But the phaser fire will be reflected back toward us." Janeway: "Harry, modulate our shield frequency to an inverse harmonic of the pulse. That should allow the phasers to hit the ship."

Suddenly a Swarm alien transports onto the Bridge!

The alien phasers one of the Bridge officers, who collapses severely injured (the way Torres and Paris were injured).

Tuvok grabs a phaser from beneath his main console and fires at the alien. As the alien is hit it is transported off the Bridge. Tuvok: "Ship's phasers are locked on a target, Captain."

Another Swarm alien transports onto the Bridge, appearing on the command centre.

Paris sees him and hurls himself against the alien, bringing him to the ground.

Paris gets out of the way. Janeway draws her phaser and fires. The alien is transported off the ship.

Another Swarm alien transports into the command centre, right in front of Chakotay.

Immediately Chakotay lunges forward, pushing the alien far enough away that Chakotay can draw his phaser. This alien goes the way of the previous two.

Janeway knows the only way to stop more boarders is to attack the Swarm now. "Tuvok, Harry. Do it!" Tuvok fires ship's phasers at a Swarm ship. The Swarm ship explodes and is thrown clear of the hull. As it goes, there is a chain reaction in the lattice connecting all the Swarm ships.

Rapidly, one by one they are crippled or explode and come off the hull.

The explosions cause some damage to Voyager.

An explosion on the Bridge catches and injures the duty officer at the science station.

There is an explosion at Ops. The jolt to Voyager which causes it makes Janeway's hair bun come uncoiled so that she is left with only a ponytail.

Tuvok: "The Swarm of ships has disbanded, Captain. They are moving away." Kim: "Shields are back to full strength." Janeway: "Good work, everyone. Now let's get out of here."

In Sickbay, Torres, released to help in Sickbay now that Voyager has evaded the Swarm, waits with Kes. Kes: "It seems to be taking forever." Torres: "That's to be expected. It's a complex procedure."

Kes: "Dr Zimmerman said he didn't know if our Doctor would be restored to his original programming or if he would regain the memories of the past two years." Torres: "I think at this point we'd be glad to have him back no matter what."

Computer: "Zimmerman program Alpha-One is now complete." Kes: "Computer, activate Emergency Medical Holographic program." The Doctor comes online. "Please state the nature of the medical emergency." Kes, delighted: "It worked! Doctor, I am so glad to see you!" Doctor: "Are you ill, young woman?" His words dash Kes' hopes - he does not recognise her so he has been re-initialised as he was two years ago. She tries to recover and hide her disappointment. "No. No, there's no emergency. I er just wanted to see if you were alright." Doctor: "It is very irresponsible to make such frivolous use of the EMH. Where's your Chief Medical Officer?" Kes: "We don't have one."

Torres raises her hand to attract the Doctor's attention. "Actually, I have an awful headache." "A headache?" The Doctor sighs with irritation at being summoned to deal with such a trivial complaint. "Nurse, tricorder." When Kes hands him a medical tricorder, he is surprised. "You're the nurse?" Kes: "In a way."

The Doctor scans Torres. "Hmm. This woman has a mild inflammation of the occipital tissues. Hardly enough to complain about but I'm willing to give you a mild analgesic." Torres: "Thank you."

Doctor to Kes: "Get me the vaso-constrictor and prepare me a hypospray with 3% hydrocortilene." Kes: "Yes, Doctor."

Kes goes to the trolley where the hyposprays and vial-loader are kept. The Doctor goes into his office and activates his portable computer. He bends over it, examining it. As he does so, he starts to hum O soave fanciulla.

Torres gives a small smile.

Kes looks around, pleased. The Doctor remembers opera! And if he remembers that then his memories have returned!

He then starts, quietly to himself, to sing the aria's lyrics. Since opera was his latest study, it means the Doctor has regained all his memories. He has made a full recovery.
