On deck 8, the secured deck, Neelix walks along the corridor bearing a covered bowl toward Suder's confinement quarters. He is followed by a security guard. They pass Tierna and a security guard - Tierna is being taken to his quarters next to Suder's.

The guard with Neelix accesses Suder's quarters and deactivates the forcefield so that Neelix can enter.

Neelix: "Dinner time, Mr Suder." Uncomfortable with the situation, he turns and looks at the security guard who is standing in the doorway, waiting for him. "We have a fine leola root soup tonight."

Suder, sitting in the shadows: "I'm not hungry." Neelix does not know how to answer either the meaning or colourless level tone.

Then the red alert klaxon sounds. Neelix turns and sees one of the corridor red alert lights flashing. He is almost grateful for the excuse to leave.
Neelix: "Red alert. I'm afraid we have to go. I'll leave it here." He puts it down. "Just in case."
He leaves. The forcefield is reactivated and the door closes.

Voyager's bridge. Janeway: "How many do you count, Mr Tuvok?"

Tuvok: "Eight large carrier vessels, confirmed Kazon signatures." Chakotay: "Funny how they show up right after we reverse course."

Janeway: "Time to intercept."
Paris: "Eight minutes. Their attack formation is a classic Cardassian echelon."
Tuvok: "Curious. They have left us with an obvious avenue of escape, Captain."
Janeway: "You're right, it is curious. Too curious for me. I don't know what's down that avenue of escape, Mr Tuvok, but I like to choose my own way. Set a course to intercept their lead ship."
Paris: "Aye, Captain."
Janeway, settling into the captain's chair: "Battle stations." Later: "Time to intercept."
Paris: "Three minutes, ten seconds, give or take a photon torpedo."

Janeway: "Mr Kim." Kim: "Echo displacement ready, Captain." Janeway: "Send in the cavalry." Kim: "Activating deflector grid. They should be seeing the same thing on their scanners - ten ships with Talaxian signatures." Tuvok: "Four of the Kazon ships are breaking formation." Paris: "Confirmed. They're changing course." Chakotay: "They took the bait." Janeway: "That only leaves four for us to handle." Chakotay: "I like those odds better than eight to one." Paris: "Two minutes to intercept." Janeway, via comms: "Janeway to Torres."

Main Engineering. Torres, via comms: "We're ready down here, Captain. All the new holo-projectors are on-line. We can create three Talaxian ships whenever you want to." Janeway, via comms: "In about a minute and a half, B'Elanna. Stand by." Contact ends.

Doctor, on monitor: "Perhaps we should try one last systems check." Torres: "You've already done it twice." Doctor, on monitor: "I'm new at this, and we've never put such a demand on the holo-generators before. We should've boosted the power input." Torres: "The defence systems are going to need all the auxiliary power we have, Doctor."

Doctor, on monitor: "We might try a preliminary-" Torres: "Doctor!" Doctor, on monitor: "It'll work. Everything will be fine. I'm not worried."

Voyager's bridge. Paris: "Here we go." Tuvok: "They are randomly detonating torpedoes in our flight path." Kim: "Shields are holding. No damage." Janeway: "Hold your fire, Mr Tuvok. They may have torpedoes to waste. We don't." Paris: "Thirty seconds to intercept." Janeway: "Take us out of warp." Paris: "Engaging impulse engines." Janeway: "Power to all weapon systems. Stand by phasers." Tuvok: "Kazon vessel 10,000 kilometres off our starboard bow." Janeway: "Not yet." Tuvok: "6,000 kilometres." Janeway: "Not yet." More Kazon hits against Voyager. Tuvok: "5,000....3....2,000." Janeway: "Now!" Paris: "Initiating evasive maneuvers, beta sequence." Tuvok: "Two more Kazon ships approaching." Another Kazon hit on Voyager's shields. Kim: "Shields at 90 per cent."

Unbeknown to anyone else on Voyager, in his quarters Tierna is making solemn preparations. He gives a deep sigh and mutters a prayer.

Janeway, via comms: "Janeway to Torres. Initiate holoprograms." Torres, via comms: "Acknowledged. Energising." A Talaxian ship "materialises" in space, distracting a Kazon ship as Voyager runs the gauntlet firing phasers at the Kazon. "That's two, and here's number three."

Behind her, the Doctor, so far visible on the wall monitor, vanishes! Torres turns, surprised. The Doctor is transferred into space! Doctor: "Help! Man overboard!"

He dodges a Kazon phaser blast as it destroys a Talaxian hologram.

Torres brings the Doctor back aboard and he appears in his office.

Torres, via comms: "Doctor, are you there? Are you alright?" The Doctor stares down at her on his personal computer: "I told you we should have run one last systems check."

Voyager's bridge. Kim: "Four Kazon ships dead ahead, but they're dividing their fire, Captain. The holograms are working." Janeway: "Ready photons." Tuvok: "Torpedoes loaded." Janeway: "Take us about, Mr Paris. We want a good angle on that fourth ship." Paris: "Coming about, 141 mark 20." Janeway: "Fire photon number one. Full starboard roll, evasive maneuvers lambda sequence. Fire." In his quarters, Tierna removes his toenail which had been removed then artificially stuck back on. He holds it up to his eye and carefully removes a thin needle from it. Kim: "Shields at 85 per cent and holding. Minor damage reported deck 14." Janeway: "Come about to 143 mark 060." Paris: "Coming about." Janeway: "Ready photons, dispersal pattern sierra. Fire."

Next 5 screenshots: In his quarters, Tierna clenches his left fist then pierces an artery with the needle. As the chemical-laden needle reacts with his artificially interfered with red blood cells, it causes so much pain that it makes him leap into the air screaming. He is a suicide bomber!

Next door, Suder hears the start of an explosion sound and dives for cover.

A massive explosion rips through Tierna's quarters, barrelling through Suder's and out into the corridor. The vast mass of flame engulfs the security guard and....

....billows down the corridor. On the Bridge, Kim reports: "I'm reading a massive discharge on deck 8. We've lost a primary plasma conduit." Chakotay: "Deck 8 - Tierna's quarters." Tuvok orders: "Damage control teams to deck 8." Kim: "I'm showing power failures all over the ship."
