Janeway: "Very nicely. We'll have vine-ripened Talaxian tomatoes in a couple of months, unless this planet has the equivalent of tomato bugs. They're awful." |
 | Chakotay: "I would never have thought of you as a gardener."
Janeway: "Hmmm. I grew up around farmers. My parents insisted that I learnt some basic gardening skills." |
 | Chakotay: "Did you hate that as much as camping?" |
 | Janeway: "Of course. Who wanted to muck around in the dirt when you could be studyng quantum mechanics?!" They laugh. "But I find it very satisfying now, watching the seeds sprout and grow." |
 | Chakotay: "If your tomatoes can spare you for a minute I'd like your opinion on something in the house."
Janeway: "Well, you've come to the right person. I always have an opinion." Chakotay: "Really." |
 | Inside the house, he activates the computer. |
 | Labelled schematics of a rowing boat appear. |
 | Chakotay: "What do you think?"
Janeway: "A boat!" Chakotay: "You said you wanted to explore the river. I think I could build this." Janeway: "We could go on a camping trip." |
 | Chakotay jokes: "I'm not sure we could fit the bathtub in the boat." |
 | Janeway laughs. "Well, that's alright, I'll have the river." |
 | Their laughter is interrupted by a sound. "Do you hear that?"
Chakotay: "Yes." |
 | The sound is someone attempting to communicate via one of the combadges. Chakotay fetches it from the top of a cupboard. |
 | He hands the combadge to Janeway.
Tuvok, via comms: "Tuvok to Captain Janeway. Can you read me? This is Tuvok calling Captain Janeway and Commander Chakotay. Please respond." Janeway, via comms: "This is Janeway." |
 | Tuvok, via comms: "Captain, it's good to hear your voice. We have news."
Janeway, via comms: "What is it?" Tuvok, via comms: "We have medicine which we believe will effectively treat your condition. We plan to be in orbit within thirty hours." |
 | As the communication ends, Janeway realises that the comfortable life and new-found closeness with Chakotay is about to end. |
 | She looks up at him. |
 | Chakotay looks back, realising the same thing. |
