| Part A |
On an uninhabited planet, Janeway and Chakotay awake from stasis. to hear the Doctor has not found a cure for the virus that infects them and which, if they leave the planet, would kill them. Janeway orders Tuvok to take command of Voyager and continue homewards, and orders him not to contact the Vidiians. Although Vidiian medical science is superior, the Vidiians might try to harvest body organs from Voyager's crew. The crew's morale plummets due to the loss of the Captain and First Officer. |

| Part E |
Janeway tells Chakotay she might one day give up her research but for the meantime feels she needs to continue. Kim identifies Vidiian ships nearby. Tuvok orders a course laid in to avoid them. Kim protests that this is a chance to ask the Vidiians for help about the virus. Tuvok suspends him from duty. In the Messhall, Crewman Hogan and Ensign Swinn tell Kim they and the crew support him. He, they, Torres and Neelix, gather to discuss a plan of action. |
| Part F |
Kim visits Tuvok in his quarters late at night to apologise, and to suggest a plan: they could offer the Vidiians some of Torres' DNA (proven to be phage-resistant) in exchange for help on the virus. Tuvok counters that the risk is too great, citing the time when Voyager killed some 300 Vidiians. Janeway and Chakotay note that he has been making a home on New Earth but that makes her uncomfortable. She admits she will eventually do the same but not at the moment. |

| Part K |
Janeway suffers neck ache from long hours of trying to reconstruct her research. Chakotay offers to massage her neck. Voyager then sets a return course for the planet (New Earth). |

After they beam up, the primate responds as if it will miss them. Back aboard Voyager, Janeway teasingly rebukes Tuvok for disobeying her orders since he returned for them.
