Janet's Star Trek Voyager Site

TUVIX : Episode 40

On deck 5, in grim silence Janeway and the guards march Tuvix from the turbolift to Sickbay.

They enter Sickbay, where the Doctor informs Janeway: "I'm sorry, Captain, but I cannot perform the surgical separation. I am a physician and a physician must do no harm. I will not take Mr Tuvix's life against his will."
Janeway is still holding on to her grim resolution. "Very well, Doctor. Please step aside."

She goes over to Kim who is holding a hypospray. "I assume this is the radioisotope." She holds out her hand for it. After a brief hesitation, Kim hands it to her.
Janeway indicates a biobed and tells Tuvix: "Please sit down on this biobed."
Resigned, and without a word, Tuvix does so.
She approaches, hypospray in hand.

They exchange a long look, then she injects him. audio: hypospray injectionhypospray injection

Janeway goes over to the console and operates the controls. "Locking surgical targetting scanners onto the isotope probe. Initiating separation sequence. Energising."

The transporter initiates. Tuvix dies.....and Neelix and Tuvok return.

Neelix and Tuvok look at each other, as two separate people.
Kes is delighted. "Neelix!"

Neelix: "Hello, sweetie."
Tuvok: "Greetings, Captain."

Janeway: "Mr Tuvok. Mr Neelix. It's good to have you back."

Janeway does not stay to talk but leaves. As she walks slowly down the corridor away from Sickbay, she is deeply saddened. She falters for a moment, feeling overcome by the weight of responsibility she has had to bear as well as the effort of maintaining a steely composure. But then she knows that she did what she had to do, and resolutely walks away.
