Kes: "I can feel her presence. She's powerful, turbulent." Kes is shocked. "She's upset! She's angry!" Tanis: "Kes-" Kes, horrified at the discovery: "She wants to destroy the ship!"

Tanis: "Kes, listen to me. There's nothing to worry about." Neelix appears: "Am I interrupting?" Tanis turns, irritated at being interrupted by this inferior being.

Janeway: "He told us that you were curious and went off to explore the galaxy. We're explorers too. But your friend brought us to this Quadrant against our will and we haven't been able to find a way back." Suspiria: "Is that why you killed him?!" Janeway: "We didn't kill him." Suspiria: "You destroyed the Array and you took his remains." Janeway: "I assure you-" Suspiria: "No!" The girl's voice deepens to that with which she communicated earlier with Tanis. "You killed him and now I will kill you!"

Janeway feels something drip onto her shoulder. She feels it with her hand. It is blood!

She looks up. Horrified, she sees the bodies of Tuvok and Torres suspended high in the air!

Janeway suddenly feels excruciating pain, inflicted by Suspiria. Suspiria: "Now you will know what frail small creatures you truly are."

	Bridge. Chakotay: "What's going on?" Paris: "I don't know. Looks like the entire molecular structure of the ship is coming apart."
	Chakotay: "Red alert. Bridge to Janeway." There is no response. "Bridge to Janeway."
	Kim: "We're losing hull integrity." Chakotay: "Increase power to structural reinforcement." "Aye, Sir."

	Tanis: "Forget these people. You're beyond them." Kes: "No."
	Neelix: "Leave her alone, Tanis!" Tanis ignores him and speaks to Kes: "Remember how you felt in the airponics bay. You've never felt that way in your entire life, have you?" Kes: "Get away from me!" Tanis: "That was only the beginning, Kes." Neelix charges toward him, determined to protect Kes. "I said, leave her alone!"

Tanis turns and glares at him, and uses the power of his mind to hurl Neelix bodily against the wall.

	Kes shrieks: "Neelix!" She tries to reach him but Tanis has hold of her. She struggles to break free.
	Tanis: "Leave him, leave him, Kes. He's nothing compared to you. Nothing! You have to trust."
	She turns on him. Their minds lock.
	Anger makes Kes' mind powerful as she brings the fire, unleashing her mind's fire against him. The fire takes hold of Tanis' blood and heats it. In pain, he releases his grip on her.

The connection between Tanis and Suspiria means that she feels his pain. In engineering, Suspiria suddenly clutches herself as she suffers the sudden pain.

Free of Tanis, Kes rushes over to Neelix. "Oh Neelix." Tanis appeals to Suspiria: "Suspiria!" The pain takes him to the floor.

In engineering, the momentary distraction relaxes Suspiria's hold on her prisoners.

Janeway, Tuvok and Torres fall to the ground.

Janeway struggles to her feet and seizes the weapon Tuvok has prepared, the one containing the sporocystian toxin. She fires it at Suspiria who shrieks with pain.

		Tuvok activates a forcefield around her.
		She puts out a finger and feels it is a forcefield - she is trapped.

Seeing that Suspiria is contained, Janeway puts down the gun.

		Suspiria: "So, you kill me as you did my mate." Janeway: "No. I told you we didn't kill him. Please try to understand, we don't want to hurt you. We don't want to hurt anyone. We just want to get home. Tuvok, release the forcefield." Tuvok: "Captain-" Janeway: "Do it." He obeys. Suspiria: "You show me mercy after what I did to you." Janeway: "Yes, I would."
		Suspiria reverts to her true form

Suspiria leaves Voyager through an upper bulkhead.

In the Messhall, Tanis senses her starting to leave. He appeals to her: "Take me with you. Please!" She does so and he vanishes.

Kes watches as Tanis disappears. Neelix is now safe from his rage.

Tuvok checks the instruments: "It appears she has descended into subspace." Janeway: "Can you track her position?" Tuvok: "Negative. The rupture has been sealed. She has gone, Captain."
Suspiria has gone, and with her goes a chance of getting home. Janeway sighs.

Janeway: "Captain's log, supplemental. We've resumed our course back to the Alpha Quadrant. But the female Caretaker is still out there, with the power to send us home. And I will use all my power to find her and convince her to do just that."

Kes is in Tuvok's quarters for another lesson. Kes: "I looked at the tea and I tried to make it boil but nothing happened. Without Tanis' help, I just can't do it." Tuvok: "Nevertheless, your psychokinetic abilities are still part of you. They might resurface one day." Kes: "To be honest, I never want to see that part of myself again." Tuvok: "To which part are you referring?" Kes: "To the part of me that got pleasure from destroying those plants in the airponics bay, to the part of me that was tempted to go with Tanis. I never realised I had such dark impulses." Tuvok: "Without the darkness, how would we recognise the light? Do not fear your negative thoughts. They are part of you. They are part of every living being, even Vulcans." Kes: "You?" Tuvok: "The Vulcan heart was forged out of barbarism and violence. We learned to control it, but it is still part of us. To pretend it does not exist is to create an opportunity for it to escape."

Tuvok: "Let us begin. Open yourself to the impressions around you: the thoughts and minds that are on this ship..." The lesson continues.
