Jaffen tells Janeway: "You'd better hurry up." Janeway tries talking to the console: "Come on, do it."

She succeeds! A klaxon sounds throughout the power plant and the computer announces: "Warning: core overload detected. Initiating emergency shut-down." The whole plant shuts down.

On Voyager Neelix reports: "The shield grid's failing." Kim: "B'Elanna?"

Torres: "Transporters are coming online....now!" She starts the transportation of Voyager's crew from the planet surface back to Voyager.

Seven is beamed up from the hospital.

Chakotay is beamed back to Voyager from the hospital bed.

Janeway is beamed up. Jaffen reaches out his hand but finds only empty air. transporter

Voyager orbiting Quarra. Doctor: "ECH log, supplemental. All the crew have been transported back to Voyager, and thanks to my experience with Lieutenant Torres their treatment is proceeding rapidly. While they're recovering I still have a few command duties left to perform."

In Voyager's Briefing Room a meeting between Voyager representatives and Quarra's ambassador, accompanied by Yerid, draws to a close.

Quarren ambassador: "If it weren't for your efforts this whole conspiracy might never have been uncovered." Kim: "What'll happen to the workers?" Yerid: "We've identified several thousand of Dr Kadan's patients. Once they've been treated they'll be repatriated." Doctor: "We appreciate everything you've done." Neelix says: "This way." and shows the guests out.

The Doctor and Kim each indicate that they are letting the other go first. Eventually the Doctor goes first and Kim pats him on the back.

In Paris' and Torres' married quarters, Paris is watching a cartoon on the antique television. He is eating popcorn and chuckling at the slapstick comedy.

Torres watches him for a moment, then comes and sits next to him. She kisses his cheek. Paris: "What's that for?" Torres: "For taking care of me, even though you didn't know who I was."

Then she hits him in the arm. Paris: "Ow! What was that for?!"

Torres: "Flirting with your customers."

Paris jokes: "I was a victim of mind-control." In good humour, they carry on watching the cartoon, glad to be back together again.

Jaffen enters Janeway's private quarters. "I can see why you'd rather live here."

Janeway: "I'd offer you a position. I could always use another skilled engineer. But as a captain, it wouldn't really be appropriate for me to-"

Jaffen: "Fraternise with a member of your crew? At least my memories weren't tampered with. According to the medical reports I really did come to Quarra looking for a better life. And now that I've been promoted I guess I've succeeded." Janeway: "Promotion?" Jaffen: "They had to replace our shift Supervisor, something about acquiring workers illegally." Janeway: "Congratulations. You deserve it."

He fetches items out of his bag.

Jaffen: "I thought you might like these back, to remind you of our time together."

Janeway's voice is close to breaking with emotion: "I won't need souvenirs to remember you."

Suddenly they rush into each other's arms for a passionate farewell embrace.

Janeway enters the Bridge.

Kim notices her and stands, announcing loudly: "Captain on the Bridge!"

She goes slowly to the captain's chair, noting that the staff are at their posts, for instance Tuvok is standing to attention at his usual post of security/tactical, and everything is back to normal.

She sits down in the captain's chair. Chakotay, who is in the First Officer's seat, rises to acknowledge her as she does so, then he sits down again.

Chakotay: "Ready to go?" Janeway, meaning Quarra: "It may not have been real, Chakotay, but it felt like home. If you hadn't come after me, I never would've known I had another life." Chakotay: "Are you sorry I showed up?" Janeway: "Not for a second." He is pleased.

Janeway orders Paris at the helm: "Resume course, Mr Paris." Paris: "Aye, sir."

Voyager leaves Quarra and resumes the journey toward the Alpha Quadrant.
