NIGHTINGALE : Episode 154

Aboard Nightingale the crew is working to maintain the ship's systems.
Kim: "Emergency power! Repolarise the containment field."
Terek: "I can't."
Loken: "The cloak is going to fail again."
Kim: "Don't panic. This is a minor malfunction."
Loken: "Minor? We're losing our main defence system!"
Terek: "We've been detected. Two Annari vessels are closing on our position. Correction: six Annari vessels."
The Annari ships fire on the now decloaked and defenceless Nightingale, causing heavy damage.

Kim: "Evasive maneuvers!" Kim speaks into the com: "Kim to Engineering."
Seven, via comms: "Go ahead."
Kim: "We need that cloak back online."
Seven, via comms: "The primary generator has failed. I'm trying-"

An explosion knocks her and an engineer over!

Seven goes flying.

Kim: "Seven? Seven, come in." He gets up, worried, about to leave for engineering. To Terek: "You have the Bridge."
Terek: "We need you here."
Dayla: "I'll go, sir."
Kim: "Alright, I'll give you instructions over the com." To Terek: "Charge phaser banks. Target their weapons array."
Terek: "Which ship?"
Kim hurries over to the helm and bends over Terek's instrument panel: "The closest one, off our port bow."
There is an exchange of fire but the Annari weapons are more powerful and cause more heavy damage.
Meanwhile Dayla reaches engineering. She pulls the unconscious Seven and the engineer out of the room.
Dayla reports via comms: "Dayla to the Bridge. Life support's failing down here. I've gotten everyone out."
Kim: "Good work. Now go to the cloaking generator. What's the field polarity?"
Dayla: "Two hundred six point four."
Kim: "That's too low. We're going to have to raise it."
Dayla: "I'm bypassing the phase converter."
Kim: "Wait, I didn't tell you to do that."
Dayla: "Won't that increase the field polarity?"
Kim: "Yes, but-"
Dayla coughs as life support starts to fail.
Kim: "Listen to me carefully, I want you to try-"
Loken: "Dayla, it's Loken. Take the warp core offline."
Kim: "What're you talking about?!"
Loken: "Bypass the driver coil and shunt power directly to the polaron matrix."
Dayla activates various controls in order to carry out Loken's instructions.
Terek: "The cloak is back online."
Kim: "Get us out of here, full impulse." Nightingale gets under way.

Kim speaks into the com: "Dayla, secure the engineering section and get back to the Bridge. Dayla?"
Loken looks at his instrument panel. "Not reading any lifesigns in Engineering.
Kim looks very grim - it seems as if a crewmember has died under his command.

As Loken enters, Kim finishes using a tricorder to scan the patient Seven, who is lying unconscious.
Kim: "Dayla?"
Loken: "She's dead. How's Seven?"
Kim: "She may be in shock. Have a look."
He hands Loken the tricorder.
Loken activates the tricorder and runs it over Seven, trying to do so like a professional. He hands the tricorder back to Kim.
Kim: "Your opinion, doctor?"
Loken: "I believe she may be in shock."
Kim: "You think we should give her a cortical stimulant?"
Loken: "That might be indicated."
Kim: "You're no doctor, are you. You and I need to talk, alone."
They go into the Captain's Ready Room."
Kim: "What the hell is going on!"
Loken: "I don't know what you mean."
Kim: "Nothing about this mission is adding up. It's obvious that you know more about cloaking systems than biology, so did Dayla; and the second that our cloak failed half a dozen Annari warships came after us, one little medical transport. The truth!"
Loken: "My colleagues and I have been working at a secret base, but not to create vaccines. We've been developing cloaking devices for our fleet."
Kim: "This ship is a prototype."
Loken: "The Annari know we have it and they don't want us to get it home."
Kim: "I never would have agreed to this if I'd known if you had a military objective."
Loken: "Our world has been under an Annari blockade for three years. The planet is protected by a shield grid but it's almost impossible to get our ships in or out."
Kim: "I convinced Captain Janeway this was a humanitarian mission!"
Loken: "It is. The Annari are choking us to death, slowly. If we can't get supply ships through the blockade we can't get food to our people, or medicine."
Kim: "For all I know, that's another lie."
He strides out and onto the Bridge.
Kim to Terek: "Reverse course."
Terek: "Sir?"
Kim: "We're heading back to Voyager."
Terek: "I don't understand."
Loken: "He knows about the cloak."
Terek: "I would've told you-"
Kim to Terek: "I gave you an order."
Terek: "What about the mission?"
Kim: "That's not your concern. You want to be a starship officer, your job is to follow orders."
Terek: "Sir, I don't-"
Kim: "This is not a debate. You're under my command."
Terek: "No, sir, not any more."
Kim: "You're relieved." He indicates a Kraylor man. "You, take the helm." But the Kraylor man does not move.

Loken: "I believe you're the one who's been relieved."

In a corridor aboard Voyager, Paris catches up with Icheb who is walking very fast.
Paris: "Where're you going in such a hurry?"
Icheb: "Engineering, to assist B'Elanna- Lieutenant Torres." Icheb is unaware that Paris is teasing him: "You've been seeing a lot of my wife lately. Should I be worried?"
Icheb: "The repairs are extensive. It's a lot of work."
Paris: "You can't fool me. I heard you two were planning on scaling some cliffs together."
Icheb: "It was her idea."

Paris: "Hey, relax! Spending time in the Holodeck is good for you. audio clip But if you really want to have fun, forget climbing. Try my race car program."
Icheb: "Race car?"
Paris: "You get to chase me round the track in an old Earth ground vehicle. 300 k.p.h. It'll really get your blood pumping."
Icheb: "Are you challenging me to a competition?"
Paris: "You think you can take me? Tomorrow, Holodeck 2, 1900 hours."
He leaves Icheb looking apprehensive and thoughtful.

As a result of the encounter with Paris, Icheb approaches Torres in a determined way once he arrives in Engineering. audio: standard doorsstandard doors
Icheb: "There is something we need to discuss."
Torres: "Sure. Soon as you help me finish this diagnostic."
Icheb: "I can't do this."
Torres: "Of course you can. You've done dozens of them."
Icheb: "I'm not talking about the diagnostic. I'm talking about us."
Torres: "Us?"
Icheb: "You're interest in me? It's inappropriate."
Torres: "I don't think I understand."
Icheb: "It's obvious you desire a romantic involvement."
Torres: "Excuse me?"
Icheb: "You've made all the customary overtures: finding reasons to spend time with me, complimenting me, inviting me to engage in recreational activities. Your husband even challenged me to a ritual contest."
Torres: "What are you talking about?!"
Icheb: "According to my research, it's a traditional Klingon practice."
Torres: "Look, I'm sorry, but you've got the wrong idea. You seemed a little lonely. I was just trying to be friendly."
Icheb: "I scanned you."
Torres: "You scanned me?!"
Icheb: "In the Jefferies tube. Your blood pressure and neurotransmitter readings indicated a state of arousal."
Torres: "It was hot! and I've been under a lot of pressure, but I certainly wasn't aroused!" She immediately quietens her voice as the last few words are spoken far too loudly and probably are overheard by the crewman who hands her something. "Look, Icheb. I like you, BUT, aside from the fact that I'm a much older woman, I'm married."
Icheb: "That's why we have to do the honourable thing. We should stop seeing each other.
Torres is about to protest the real facts of the matter but suddenly reconsiders. To prevent the discussion becoming more awkward and knowing that otherwise Icheb would end up feeling embarrassed for being so wrong, she suddenly pretends to go along with him. "You're right. As much as it hurts, I'll just have to face the truth."

Icheb: "It's for the best." He pats her arm comfortingly.
He goes, leaving Torres still looking bemused.
