Janeway taps her combadge. "Janeway to the Bridge. Report." There is no response. Now she knows that the threat she feared, even though she does not understand its nature fully, is upon the ship.

She signals the security guard, who deactivates the forcefield long enough for her to leave the holding cell. She signals him to accompany her as she leaves the Brig, intending to find out what is going on and deal with it.

As they walk along the corridor they see Chakotay and Yosa approaching. Yosa is armed with a phaser rifle. Chakotay is pointing a phaser.....and fires at the security guard! As the security guard falls, Janeway demands: "What the hell are you doing?!"

Yosa drags the body of the unconscious security guard out of sight, round the corridor corner, heading for the Brig.

Chakotay: "I think it's obvious. I'm taking control of your ship. Within the hour all Starfleet personnel will be locked in their quarters. Step back in the Brig." He indicates that she has no choice when he takes her arm to steer her.

Janeway: "What's Teero done to you?" Chakotay: "He simply helped us remember who we are. We're Maquis. We've always been Maquis." Janeway: "The rebellion ended three years ago. You know that." Chakotay: "In the Alpha Quadrant, maybe. Not on this ship." The comms. signal sounds. comms. signal "Torres to Chakotay." Chakotay: "Go ahead." Torres, via comms: "Deck 11 is secure." Chakotay: "Acknowledged."

As Janeway is brought into the Brig, she tries to reason with Chakotay. "We're 35,000 light years from Earth, Chakotay. No one out here even knows of the Maquis. It doesn't sense. There's nothing you can accomplish." Chakotay: "As long as we exist, so does the rebellion." Janeway: "That's Teero talking. He was unstable. You said so yourself!" Chakotay: "We have no intention of hurting any of you."

Janeway is obliged to enter the holding cell.

The captured Starfleet security guard is slumped unconscious on the seat there. Tuvok looks at Janeway disdainfully, as one would an enemy who has been subdued and is no longer a threat.

Once Janeway is in the cell, Tuvok turns to Chakotay: "Your orders, Captain?"

Chakotay: "Take your station."

Tuvok leaves the holding cell, and the forcefield is activated.

Chakotay: "Captain's log, stardate 54101. Voyager is now under my command. We're en route to an M-class planet where we'll relocate the Starfleet crew."

The M-class planet comes into range. Torres: "On screen. Looks like a nice place for a Federation colony." To Jor, who acts as the Maquis conn officer: "Take us into orbit."

The com. signal sounds and Chakotay asks Tuvok: "Tuvok, would you mind joining me in the Ready Room." He leaves the tactical station and goes into the Captain's Ready Room.

In the Captain's Ready Room, Chakotay is attended by Ayala, who was his righthand man in the Maquis and is again.

Tuvok to Chakotay: "You wished to see me, Captain." Chakotay: "You can drop the formalities. This is a Maquis ship now." He hands Tuvok a glass. "Vulcan brandy. I thought we'd have a drink to celebrate." Tuvok: "A fitting gesture." Chakotay proposes the toast: "To awakenings." Tuvok: "Awakenings." They drink to the toast. Chakotay sets down his glass.

He tells Tuvok: "There are still 23 of our former comrades who aren't with us yet. I was hoping you'd be able to help persuade them." Tuvok: "I'm prepared to mind-meld with the remaining Maquis to convey Teero's instructions." Chakotay: "It'd be nice to have my old crew back. You've been a big help to us, Tuvok, but I can't forget what happened seven years ago. You have a history of betraying the Maquis."

Tuvok: "It won't happen again." Chakotay: "We have a small crew. I have to be able to trust everyone, especially my tactical officer." He taps his combadge. combadge "Bring her in!"

Yosa brings Janeway in through the corridor entrance.

Chakotay draws his phaser

He hands the phaser to Tuvok. "Consider this a test of your loyalty." He indicates Janeway. "It's set to kill."
