REPRESSION : Episode 150 : portrayed in several parts

In Sickbay the Doctor tells Tuvok: "I thought you might like to have a few words with Mr Tabor."
Tuvok: "How did you revive him?"
Tabor: "I didn't. His synaptic pathways stabilised on their own."
He leaves Tuvok to interview Tabor.

Tuvok: "How do you feel?"
Tabor: "Fine, sir. Hungry."
Tuvok: "What do you remember?"
Tabor: "Not much. I was working in the Holodeck then I was here."
Tuvok: "Was anyone in the Holodeck with you?"
Tabor: "No, sir."
Tuvok: "Do you know why anyone would want to hurt you?"
Tabor: "No. What's going on?"
Tuvok: "Thank you, Ensign." He leaves Tabor.

Chakotay and a female crewmember come upon Chell walking alone in a corridor.

Chakotay calls sharply to Chell as he turns into the corridor ahead of them: "Crewman!"
Chell turns.

Chakotay: "I remember ordering everyone to work in pairs. Where's your partner?"
Chell: "Er, she's er, er-"
Chakotay cuts in: "Who's your partner?"
Chell: "Lieutenant Torres. I told her we shouldn't split up, sir, but she said she could handle herself. You know how stubborn she can be."

Chakotay: "I have a vague idea. Do you know where she went?"
Chell: "Cargo Bay 2, sir."
Chakotay's companion goes with Chell while Chakotay heads immediately for Cargo Bay 2.

"B'Elanna!" There is no response. "Computer, locate Lieutenant Torres."
Computer: "Lieutenant Torres is in Cargo Bay 2."
After a short search he sees her behind some cargo containers at the back of the room.

She is lying there comatose!
He checks her pulse. At least she is alive.

Chakotay happens to look up and sees Tuvok standing there. He tells Tuvok: "Help me get her to Sickbay."

Tuvok approaches. "This is a holy time."
Chakotay: "What?"
As Tuvok bears down on him, Chakotay suddenly realises something is wrong and tries to draw his phaser.

But Tuvok is too quick for him and Chakotay loses his phaser as he is hurled backward. As he recovers he taps his combadge: "Security to Cargo Bay 2!" but Tuvok bears down on him. Chakotay picks up a heavy tool from Torres' engineering kit and hits Tuvok in the left side with it, but Tuvok is Vulcan and therefore stronger.

Tuvok seizes him and forces a mind-meld! "Let the mind awaken and focus on the task! My mind to your mind, my thoughts to your thoughts."

Janeway: "Captain's log, supplemental. Chakotay and B'Elanna are the latest victims of our mysterious assailant. I've decided to put the ship on a level 10 security alert. Non-essential personnel are assigned to quarters and security teams have been posted on all decks."

In Cargo Bay 2 Tuvok and his team are investigating the attack on Chakotay. Tuvok is taking forensic samples.

He orders a crewmember, handing them the toolkit: "Ensign, run a metallurgical analysis." She leaves to do so.

Janeway enters. soundcargo bay doors "
Janeway: "Two more victims regained consciousness: Crewmen Yosa and Jor. Their bio-readings returned to normal as if they suffered nothing worse than a good night's sleep. Doesn't make any sense!"
Tuvok: "It is, however, a pattern, and a pattern implies purpose. We simply have to uncover it."
Janeway: "Any clues here?"
Tuvok: "Not yet."
Janeway: "I'm beginning to think our perpetrator is a ghost."
Tuvok: "Perhaps we should conduct a seance."
Janeway: "Wouldn't hurt."
Tuvok: "I have worked meticulously, yet he has outwitted me each time."
Janeway: "How can you be sure it's a he?"
Tuvok: "I can't, but I am."
Janeway: "Another hunch?"
Tuvok: "I can almost sense his presence. It's as though he's challenging me to find him."
Janeway: "I'd say you're taking this a little too personally. Maybe you should take a break."
Tuvok: "No."

Janeway: "You haven't slept in three days. Get some rest. Meditate. Clear your mind."
Tuvok: "My mind is perfectly clear."
Janeway: "I don't want to make this an order, Tuvok." He closes the tricorder and she holds out her hand for it. He hands it to her. "I'll go over your scans. A fresh pair of eyes might help."
Tuvok acknowledges, "Captain." closes and thus deactivates the tricorder and hands it to her, then leaves.

In his private quarters, Tuvok lights his meditation lamp.

Tuvok begins to meditate.

Suddenly his mind is assaulted by what disturbing images.

At first he "sees" those Maquis crewmembers who were attacked, lying in Sickbay but in biobeds that have been placed differently from the layout there. It could be preoccupation with the investigation, but then he sees the attacks through the attacker's eyes, including Chakotay lunging at him with a heavy engineering tool!

Horrified, Tuvok hurries into the bathroom, stumbling as he goes, and takes off his jacket.

Tuvok staggers over to the washbasin and runs water, intending to splash it on himself to clear his head.

Logical and frightening conclusions are forming in his mind. Then he has another image, that of Chakotay picking up the engineering tool and hitting him in the side with it! Is it a strange vision of some kind or is it a flashback, a flashback to an event that actually happened?!

He pulls up his shirt and gingerly feels the large bruise there which, previously, he had no explanation for!

Tuvok gradually works it out and as he turns to stare at himself in the mirror over the sink, his logic tells him that he will look into the eyes of the attacker.

Suddenly an image forms in his mind - it is a Bajoran vedek! We recognise him as Teero Anaydis, the fanatic from the episode's prologue who called up images of selected USS Voyager crew. Teero tells Tuvok: "Resist your doubts."

Tuvok spins round but he has only "seen" the Bajoran in his mind - there is no one really there!

Tuvok hurries from the room, pausing only to grab his combadge.

As he strides down the corridor, Teero's words enter his mind: "Don't question your mission." The words cause him to turn and look behind him. He is rather bewildered because he can see no one yet can hear the words in his head, turns and hurries on.

In Holodeck 2, Janeway is overseeing the work on enhancing the 'negative' image of the attacker.
Janeway tells Kim: "Filter out the polarised photons." The attacker's image appears but it is still faint. "Anyone you know?"

Tuvok hurries in, looking perturbed. "Tuvok."
Tuvok ignores her. "Computer, isolate the precise time index of this image."
Computer: "Stardate 54090.4."

Tuvok: "Where was Commander Tuvok at that time?"
Computer: "Access to that information has been restricted."
Tuvok: "By whom?"
Computer: "Access to that information has been restricted."

Janeway: "Tuvok, what's going on?"
Tuvok again ignores her. "Computer, override those security restrictions, authorisation Tuvok pi alpha."
Computer: "Restrictions overridden."
Tuvok: "Where was Commander Tuvok at the specified time?"
Computer: "Commander Tuvok was in Holodeck 2."
Tuvok: "Computer, based on the most recent data can you give me a better estimation of the intruder's height?"
Computer: "182 centimetres."
Tuvok: "And what is the height of Lieutenant Commander Tuvok?"
Computer: "182 centimetres."

Tuvok at last turns to Janeway. "Captain, I believe I-" Suddenly Teero's image appears in his mind. Tuvok draws his phaser and aims it at the image only he sees. Kim takes out his phaser, but when he turns to where Tuvok is looking he cannot see anyone. Nor can Janeway. Teero tells Tuvok: "Ignore your doubts."
Tuvok to Teero: "No!"

Janeway: "Commander, lower your weapon."
Teero: "Pagh t'em far, B'tanay."
Tuvok to the Bajoran: "Who are you?!"

But Teero's image disappears.
(The screenshot shows Tuvok pointing his phaser at the Bajoran he "sees" with Kim looking, not quite in the right "place", to try and see whom Tuvok is looking at.)

Janeway disarms Tuvok.

Tuvok, calmer now, turns to Janeway. "Captain, it would appear that I am the guilty party."
Janeway: "How is that possible?"
Tuvok: "I don't know, but for the safety of the crew you must confine me to the Brig."
