![]() | Later, in Engineering, after Crewman Yosa reports, "Pressure is fluctuating in 114," Crewman Jor orders him, "You'd better check the seals." |
![]() | He makes his way through one of the Jefferies tubes. |
![]() | As Yosa makes his way along the crawlway, the lights go out. He clicks his combadge. | ![]() |
![]() | Feeling threatened, Yosa decides to flee the Jefferies tube. |
![]() | Yosa fumbles with panic as he opens the hatch. |
![]() | But when Yosa climbs out of the hatch into the junctionway and orders the computer, "Computer, seal hatch 613 beta," the computer replies, "Unable to comply." He clicks his combadge, "Crewman Yosa to security." But there is no reply. He tries to climb the ladder but the hatch above is sealed so he cannot escape! |
![]() | The terrified Yosa can only wait as the mysterious attacker bears down on him! |
![]()
| Soon afterwards, we see Yosa in Sickbay. The Doctor reports: "His neocortical readings are identical to Tabor's, and he has the same microfractures along his right temple."
Tuvok: "Who discovered him?" Janeway: "Crewman Jor." This seems to confirm Tuvok's earlier suspicions about Jor. Chakotay taps his combadge. Janeway: "Computer, locate Crewman Jor." Computer: "Crewman Jor is in the Messhall." Chakotay and Tuvok leave for there immediately. |
![]() | When Tuvok and Chakotay arrive in the dark Messhall, they find Crewman Jor. She has been attacked the same way as Tabor and Yosa! | ![]() |
![]() | Sickbay.
Doctor: "If this keeps up I may have to open a special coma ward." Chakotay, handing Janeway a PADD: "Take a look at their names. Tell me if anything strikes you." Janeway looks at the list: "Former Maquis." Chakotay: "It's either a coincidence or they're being singled out." |
![]() | Janeway: "There hasn't been any hostility and the rest of the crew for years."
Chakotay: "Maybe someone on your crew couldn't put the past behind them." Janeway: "My crew?" Chakotay: "Our crew." |
![]() | Janeway: "Are you any closer to a diagnosis, Doctor?"
Doctor: "They all the same disruptions in their synaptic pathways, the same cranial fractures, contusions, but I still don't know the cause, or how to reverse it." Janeway to Tuvok: "Your investigation?" Tuvok: "Nothing conclusive." Janeway: "Five crewmen in comas and we don't have a single clue?" |
![]() | Tuvok: "The assailant must have access to security protocols. There is no other way he could have escaped detection."
Doctor: "You'd better find a way to protect the rest of the Maquis. I'm running out of beds." |
![]() | At a gathering in the Messhall of crewmembers who were formerly Maquis, Crewman Chell, a Bolian male, asks Chakotay: "What is it you expect us to do?"
Chakotay: "Stay alert. Report anything suspicious to Commander Tuvok." Chell: "I'd rather report to you if it's all the same." |
![]() | Crewman Doyle: "He's right. I never trusted the Vulcan. He's betrayed us before."
Torres: "He was doing his job." |
![]() | Crewman Doyle: "He didn't care about the Maquis back then. Why should he now?"
Torres: "We're not Maquis any more." Crewman Doyle: "Tell that to our friends in Sickbay." |
![]() | Torres: "Oh come on. We put our differences aside seven years ago. It's ancient history."
Chell: "Ancient history is repeating itself." |
![]() | Chakotay: "The truth is we don't know what we're up against. But the last thing we need right now is an outbreak of paranoia. Now until we get to the bottom of this, I want you all to carry hand-phasers. Nobody goes anywhere alone." |
![]() | In the Holodeck, Paris and Kim have the Chicago Theater program running but without holocharacters or action. Paris informs Tuvok: "We thought maybe the intruder left behind some kind of negative image."
Kim: "Displaced photons. Tom figured that if we dampened the photonic ambience and enhance the-" Tuvok: "We can applaud Mr Paris' ingenuity later. What have you found?" |
![]() | When the control is activated a vague shape appears in the front row of the seats."
It is recognisable enough for Tuvok to surmise: "Ensign Tabor." |
![]() |
![]() | Paris: "Now take a look at this." He operates a control and another shape appears, but vaguer.
Tuvok: "Impressive." Kim: "It doesn't tell us who the attacker was but we do know someone else was here." Tuvok: "Can you extrapolate the assailant's height and weight?" Kim: "I'd say between 170 and 190 centimetres, maybe 75 kilograms." Paris: "That describes half the members of the crew." |
![]() | Kim half-jokes: "At least we can rule out Naomi Wildman."
Tuvok: "Is it possible to increase the resolution?" Kim: "We're already working on it." Tuvok: "Keep me informed." |
![]() | As he goes to leave, he turns for a moment, deep in troubled thought.
Paris: "Commander?" But Tuvok turns and leaves. |
![]() | Chell and Torres are walking along a corridor together.
Chell keeps looking behind them in case the mysterious attacker is sneaking up behind them. Torres, irritably: "Stop it. You're making me nervous." | ![]() |
![]() | Chell: "It doesn't make sense. This ship, with all its sensors. How could five people be attacked without leaving a trace?"
Torres: "Good question." Chell: "Maybe it's a conspiracy. Ever since Voyager started sending datastreams back home Starfleet has known that almost a quarter of the crew is Maquis." Torres: "So?" |
![]() | Chell: "Maybe they think we're still dangerous. Maybe they ordered the Captain to neutralise the threat." |
![]() | Impatiently Torres replies sarcastically, as they wait for the turbolift: "Yes, that's it. She's putting us all into stasis. The comas are just a cover story." |
![]() | Chell, thoughtfully: "It would be easier than putting us all in the Brig." |
![]() | The turbolift doors open and Seven of Nine comes out and goes down the corridor. |
![]() | He turns and looks after her.
As he enters the turbolift: "It could be her." Torres, in the turbolift: "Oh, please!" |
![]() | In the Briefing Room, Tuvok ends his interview of a male crewmember.
Tuvok: "That'll be all, Crewman. Please send in Mr Kim." The crewman acknowledges, gets up and leaves |
![]()
| Kim enters. Kim: "I'm still trying to enhance the photon displacement." Tuvok: "I appreciate your efforts, Mr Kim, but I called you here for another reason. In the last datastream from Earth you received a letter from someone named Dennis Kim." Kim: "My cousin." Tuvok: "In that letter he spoke of your mutual friend, Maxwell Soroyan." Kim: "You read my mail?" Tuvok: "Yes." Kim: "Isn't that a violation of privacy protocols?" Tuvok: "As the chief of security I have the authority to suspend those protocols under special circumstances." Kim: "And what is so special about a letter from my cousin?" Tuvok: "The attacks began shortly after we received the last datastream. Your letter was part of that transmission." Kim: "A lot of people got letters." Tuvok: "28 to be exact, but only 6 of them match the physical parameters of the photon displacement." Kim: "Am I a suspect?" Tuvok: "According to the letter, your friend Mr Soroyan was killed by the Maquis a number of years ago." Kim goes for sarcasm: "You got me, Tuvok. I confess. I was so distraught after hearing Maxwell's name that I fired my Captain Proton comatiser at every Maquis I could find." Tuvok: "Your sarcasm could be viewed as subterfuge." Kim: "Tuvok, it's me - Harry! Do you really think I'd be capable of this?" Tuvok: "My personal views are irrelevant." Kim: "I learned about Max's death a long time ago. I was upset, but I don't blame the Maquis and I certainly don't blame anyone on this ship! If that'll be all....?" He notices when Tuvok becomes preoccupied. "Is everything alright?" Tuvok: "This investigation is perplexing. It defies logic." Kim: "I'll keep you posted on the Holodeck analysis." He leaves. The comm. alert sounds. Tuvok: "On my way." |
