While Chakotay is talking to Janeway, Sulan is planning his move.
Sulan has a weapon hidden.

Suddenly he takes aim at Human Torres. Klingon Torres sees him and dives in front of other self, shouting "No!" She takes the weapon blast instead and falls to the ground.

Sulan yells: "No!!!" when he realises he has hit Klingon Torres, his prize, his high hope for curing the phage.

Chakotay, via comms: "Three humans and one Klingon to beam up!"

The transporter beam takes Chakotay, Paris, Human Torres....
....and Klingon Torres.
Sulan is left alone and in despair - Klingon Torres has gone!

Janeway and Tuvok enter the transporter room to behold two Torres - one fully Klingon, one fully human.
Paris: "She's badly wounded, Captain." Human Torres: "Beam her to Sickbay!"
Klingon Torres tells her: "Don't. No time. You showed true courage. It makes my death an honourable one."

Clasping hands with her other self, Klingon Torres dies.

Later in Sickbay. Doctor: "Using tissue from your counterpart I can replicate the Klingon DNA. Then over the course of several days I'll re-integrate that genetic material into your cellular structure." Human Torres: "You're not saying you're going to change me back?" Doctor: "That's precisely what I'm saying. Your cells' ability to synthesise proteins has been severely compromised. You need the Klingon genes to survive."
Human Torres: "So, she's saving my life again." Doctor: "I'll get started on the DNA." He leaves to begin work.
Chakotay: "How're you doing?" Human Torres: "I'm not sure. It's been a pretty strange experience. I do know that right now, the way I am, I'm more at peace with myself than I've ever been before, and that's a good feeling." Chakotay: "But?"
Human Torres: "I'm incomplete. It doesn't feel like me. I guess I've had someone else living inside of me for too long to survive without her." Chakotay: "I'd have to say that you two made quite a team down there." Human Torres: "I know. I came to admire a lot of things about her - her strength, her bravery. I guess I just have to accept the fact that I'll spend the rest of my life fighting with her."

And tears fall as she remembers her lost friend and their adventure together.
