 | Chakotay and Torres are examining the relevant bioneural gel packs on Deck 13.
Chakotay: "These gel packs aren't burned out." Torres: "There's not trace of any EM discharge." Chakotay: "Could it have dissipated this quickly?" Torres: "No, it moved." Chakotay: "Moved?" Torres: "The discharge seems to be travelling through the bioneural circuitry, jumping from system to system." Chakotay: "Can you isolate it?" Torres: "It's in a series of gel packs that interface with the environmental controls outside Cargo Bay 2." Chakotay: "Let's try to get there before it jumps again." They move off. |
 | Neelix: "By then Seven of Nine was in Cargo Bay 2 to run diagnostics but because the comm. system was down they couldn't warn her, and she had no idea that something was in the room with her." |  |
The children are rather nervous.
Rebi: "Here?"
Azan: "In this cargo bay?"
Mezoti: "Then what happened?"
 | Neelix: "The creature was clinging to the circuits and bulkheads using them to move about the room. It was getting closer and closer."
Seven notices the phenomeon. She gets out a tricorder and tries to scan it. |
 | As nebula-type gas fills the room, Seven taps her combadge  combadge and tries the comm. system: "Seven of Nine to the Bridge." There is no response. "Bridge, acknowledge."
Neelix: "But of course, there was no answer." |
 | Icheb: "Why didn't she re-modulate her neural transceiver send a message that way?"
Neelix: "Er, that's an interesting question. You'll have to ask her." Mezoti to Icheb: "Stop interrupting." |
 | Neelix: "Seven tried to get out but she was trapped."
Seven finds that the cargo bay doors do not open. The mysterious phenomemon seems to chase after her. |

She opens the door manually by pulling the lever in the set of controls embedded in the floor.

 | Seven hurries out of the cargo bay. |
 | Suddenly she encounters a forcefield! |
 | She turns and heads the other way. Suddenly she encounters another forcefield. The area begins to fill with gas - she is trapped! |
 | As Seven, choking, succumbs to the gas, her implant seems to sizzle with electromagnetic energy! She collapses, unconscious. |  |
 > | Rebi: "What happened to Seven?"
Mezoti: "The entity must have infiltrated her cybernetic systems, and turned her against the rest of the crew." Neelix: "It most certainly did not. You're letting your imagination run away with you." Suddenly there is a fizzling sound and the light goes out. The children jump. Rebi: "What happened?" Azan: "Why did the light go out?" Neelix: "It's alright. I just have to replace the power cell. It'll only take a moment. Nothing to be frightened about." Mezoti: "I'm not frightened, but Azan is." Azan: "I am not." Neelix finishes replacing the power cell and the lantern comes back on: "There!" He looks into the children's startled faces. "Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. Now, where was I? Oh yes. Seven was trapped by the forcefields, but fortunately for her, help was on the way." |
 | Chakotay and Torres exit from a Jefferies tube crawlway hatch. They run toward Seven. |  |
 | Chakotay orders: "Computer, deactivate this forcefield." There is no response. |
 | To Torres: "We'll have to cut power to the field generators."
Torres works the controls on a wall-mounted interface: "The computer's not accepting my command codes." |
 | Chakotay draws his phaser. "Stand back." She does so. He fires at the panel.
Torres: "The forcefield's down." They hurry over to Seven. Chakotay: "Let's get her to Sickbay." |
 | Neelix: "Now, most of us were just going about our business oblivious to what was happening, but that was about to change."
Neelix is cooking in the Galley. The Messhall lights start flickering and some go out. Kim looks up from his meal. |
 | Kim taps his combadge. combadge "Kim to Engineering." There is no response.
Neelix taps his combadge. combadge "Neelix to the Bridge." There is no response. |
 | Kim stands up and calls out: "I want everyone to report to their stations until we figure out what's going on."
The crewmembers start to leave, one responding: "Aye, sir." |
 | Neelix: "Er, Ensign, maybe I should come with you. The Captain might need me."
Kim: "This is your post. You may be needed here." Neelix: "Of course." As Kim leaves, he calls out nervously: "If you need anything, anything at all, you know where to find me!" Kim leaves. standard doors |
 | Neelix: "So there I was. The only thing I could do was wait, alone," the lights go out, "in the dark." |  |
 | The only source of light comes from the flickering fire of the stove. He lets out a little whimper. |
| Neelix: "Voyager was dead in space. System after system was failing, including the environmental controls. Ensign Paris told me it was hotter than a Tarcanian desert on the Bridge."
Tuvok and Paris are working at a maintenance panel in the Bridge's the engineering section. Paris: "Don't you ever sweat?" Tuvok: "Not unless the temperature reaches 350° Kelvin, with a humidity factor of approximately-" Paris: "Forget I asked." Tuvok: "Very well." Janeway: "I'll make you a deal, Voyager. The next M-class planetoid we find, we'll set down and I'll give you a nice maintenance overhaul. What do you say?" An audio alert gives her hope. "Tom, check the conn." Paris does so. "I don't know what you did, Captain, but I've got helm control back." Janeway to Voyager: "Thanks, my friend." Paris: "I'm going to try to get thrusters and impulse engines back online." Janeway: "Tom, I'm reading an EM surge in your console. Get away from there!" She is too late. The EM surge strikes Paris and he screams! Janeway, via comms: "Bridge to Sickbay, medical emergency!" To Tuvok: "Can we transport him?" Tuvok: "Transporters are offline." Janeway: "Why am I not surprised." A klaxon sounds. "Now what!" Computer: "Warning, oxygen depletion in progress." Tuvok: "Breathable air is being sucked out of the Bridge." The crew start suffocating. Janeway: "Reroute emergency power to environmental controls." Tuvok: "No effect." Janeway: "Everyone out of here now!" Everyone flees from the Bridge, Janeway helping to bring Paris. |
