Bridge. Kim: "We've got weapons back."

Chakotay: "Can you target those hooks?" Kim: "Not at this range. We'd breach the upper hull."

Paris: "It's better than being dissected."

Chakotay hurries over to join Kim at Ops: "Reverse the hull polarity. Maybe we can shake them loose."

Janeway enters the Airponics Bay. Seeing Older Kes supporting Younger Kes, she puts all the pieces of the puzzle together.

Janeway: "Now one of you doesn't belong here, and I'm guessing it's you." She means the older woman. "Tuvok's premonitions were real. You're from the future."

Older Kes: "A future I'm about to change." Janeway: "You're helping the Vidiians, Kes. Why?"

Older Kes hurls her back against the wall using her mental powers.

Janeway, on the ground, phaser out of reach.

Although she has been weakened by the force of the energy flung against her, she struggles to get up. She could not have known that over the years Kes' (Older Kes') mental powers had grown so much.

Older Kes finds the corridor outside the airponics bay is filled with fighting, as phaser blasts are seen.

She has no choice but to turn and face Janeway who has got back on her feet and who has regained her phaser.

Janeway: "Tell me why you're doing this."

Older Kes lays her younger self down, the better to protect her younger self and to face Janeway without encumbrance.

Older Kes: "I won't let you hurt her again." Janeway: "I haven't done anything to harm her." Older Kes: "You took her from Ocampa, her home. She's a prisoner on this ship!" Janeway: "No one's a prisoner here, Kes."

Older Kes: "I was a child. You corrupted me with your ideas." Janeway: "What ideas?" Older Kes, resentfully: "Exploration, discovery - I believed you."

Bridge. Kim: "Hull polarity loosened their hold, but not by much." Chakotay: "It's a start. Re-route the deflector. Have it discharge anti-graviton pulses along the hull. Engage the inertial dampers. Get a controlled pitch going."

The Vidiian grappling hook, attached to Voyager.

Airponics Bay. Janeway tries to reach Older Kes, both emotionally and, by walking toward her, physically.

Older Kes: "In three years I'm going to leave Voyager in search of higher things because you encouraged me to do it. You encouraged me to develop my mental abilities. I wasn't ready for what I found. I couldn't control it. It scared me. I had nowhere to go. I thought of returning home to Ocampa, but I'd changed too much. I knew they'd be frightened of me. I knew they wouldn't accept me, but they'll accept her."

Janeway: "You don't have to destroy this ship, Kes. We can help you." Older Kes: "No, I trusted you." Janeway: "Kes-"

Older Kes: "No!"

She uses her thoughts to hurl Janeway backwards and onto the floor.

As Janeway, by now even weaker, starts to rise, she stumbles again as Voyager lurches.

Voyager is lurching because it is breaking free from the Vidiian grappling hooks.

Kim: "We're breaking free." One of the grappling hooks snaps. Paris: "They're trying to lock on us with a tractor beam."

Chakotay: "Reverse thrusters. Full power."

Paris: "That could tear the hull apart." Chakotay, fiercely: "Then tear it apart!"

The strategy works. Voyager rips free, although parts of the hull and interior are pulled off at the same time as the grappling hooks.

Chakotay capitalises on it. "Photon torpedoes, full spread."

Kim: "Ready." Chakotay: "Fire!" Voyager fires photon torpedoes. There are direct hits on the Vidiian ship.
