In the Airponics Bay, Older Kes checks on her younger self, who, under sedation, is kept in a storage drawer. She scans her with a tricorder.

Then she closes the storage drawer.

She goes to the computer console.

Older Kes: "Computer, access Voyager's tactical database." Computer: "Command authorisation required."

She puts her hand on the monitor and uses her mental powers. "Access granted." Data displays on the monitor.

Janeway's private quarters. Janeway, puzzled when Tuvok explains: "Naomi Wildman?"

Tuvok: "She appeared to be half-Ktarian." Janeway: "Ensign Wildman's husband is Ktarian. I met him once on Deep Space 9." Tuvok: "There's more. I followed her to Cargobay 2, where I saw a woman and two children, all with cybernetic implants." Janeway: "Borg?"

Tuvok: "I can't explain it, Captain. I've had hallucinations before, but only while in a state of deep meditation. These were specific and they evoked a sense of anticipation." Janeway: "It almost sounds like you're describing," spreads her hands, "a premonition." Tuvok: "Indeed." Janeway: "I didn't think Vulcans had premonitions."

Tuvok: "They don't. That's what concerns me."

Janeway: "Computer, maintain a continuous proximity scan of Lieutenant Tuvok, ten metre radius, all sensor parameters." To Tuvok: "In case you have any more visions." Tuvok: "A logical plan."

The com. signal sounds. Chakotay, via comms: "Bridge to Captain Janeway."
Janeway, via comms: "Go ahead."
Chakotay, via comms: "We're approaching the vacuoles."
Janeway, via comms: "On my way."

Tuvok and Janeway enter the Bridge from the turbolift and he takes his post at Security/Tactical.

Janeway goes to the Command Centre. Chakotay: "Last chance to take the long way around." Janeway: "It does feel like we're sneaking through a graveyard at midnight. Any sign of the Vidiians?" Chakotay: "Not yet, but it's a safe bet they're in there."

Janeway: "Tom?" Paris: "Trajectory is laid in. Our trip will take three hours, twelve minutes, eleven seconds, with two hundred and sixteen course changes." Janeway: "Well, let's get started." Paris: "Engaging at warp eight. Sit back and enjoy the ride."

Chakotay and Janeway check progress from the LCARS monitor they share which is located between their seats.

Kim: "One of the vacuoles shifted position. The computer's adjusting our vector." Paris: "Dropping to impulse, 2.3° turn starboard, jumping to warp 6."

Chakotay: "One down, two hundred and fifteen to go."

Janeway: "I'll be in Sickbay." She heads for the turbolift.

Paris: "Dropping to impulse. New heading, 031 mark 2." Janeway exits. Tuvok: "There's a ship approaching. It's on a collision course."

Paris, puzzled: "I'm not reading any ship."

Chakotay turns to Tuvok: "Lieutenant?"

Tuvok rises to his feet. "Permission to be relieved, sir. I am not well." Chakotay: "Of course." Tuvok leaves.

In the medical lab adjoining the Doctor's office, the Doctor and Wildman look at the schematic on a wall-mounted monitor. Doctor: "The molecular structures appear to be stable. Good."

The doors open. Janeway enters. "Report." Doctor: "We've devised a neural agent that should inhibit the Vidiians' motor functions without causing any permanent damage." Janeway: "Good." She leans in with the light-hearted aside: "I don't want to add to their health problems, I just want to keep them from adding to ours."

Wildman: I'll get to work." She heads into the Doctor's office. Janeway watches her. "Doctor, when was the last time you examined Ensign Wildman?" Doctor: "I performed her annual physical six weeks ago." Janeway: "Did you find anything unusual?" Doctor: "She's in perfect health."

Janeway: "This may seem like a strange question, but I need to know if she's pregnant." Doctor: "I'm not at liberty to disclose that information. Doctor-patient confidentiality."

Janeway: "What about Captain's orders?"

Doctor: "Sorry, medical protocols supersede your authority in these matters."

Janeway: "The security of this ship could be at stake." Now the Doctor does not mind sharing the information at all. "She planned on telling you herself." Janeway: "Boy or girl?" Doctor: "Female. Half-Ktarian, as a matter of fact, which should nearly double the infant's gestation period." Janeway recalls Tuvok's premonition - he saw a half-Ktarian female child. "How did you know?"

Janeway leaves.

As the doors shut behind her the Doctor says aloud to himself: "And they say I'm rude."

As Tuvok walks along a corridor, he hears voices. Some of the voices he recognises, others not. He is unaware that it is dialogue from the future (year 2376), from when Older Kes comes aboard. The dialogue does not necessarily occur in the order that it will occur when it really happens in the future. At one point he goes and looks round the corner to see if the voices are coming from there somehow, but there is no one there. Chakotay: "We're receiving a distress call." Janeway: "Lifesigns?" Kim: "It's Ocampan." Janeway: "Kes?" Older Kes: "Let me come on board." Tuvok: "Her ship is accelerating. It's on a collision course." Kim: "Hull breach on Deck 9." Janeway: "Emergency forcefields." Tuvok: "She's approaching Main Engineering." A voice he does not recognise: "State your intentions." (It is actually Seven, speaking to Older Kes.) Older Kes: "Let me come on board." Tuvok: "It's on a collision course." Janeway: "Forcefields." Chakotay: "We're receiving a distress call." Janeway: "Bridge to Engineering. Intruder alert." The voices repeat and mix and become a babble in his head.

Tuvok enters Engineering. Torres watches him, wondering, as he does not speak, why he is there. Torres: "Problem?"

The voices continue, pressing in on his mind, overwhelming him. Ayala: "Stop where you are." Torres: "Kes." Seven: "State your intentions." Paris: "Warp power is fluctuating." Torres: "She's in direct contact with the warp core. She's drawing power from it somehow." Tuvok is drawn toward the warp core. Janeway: "Shut it down."

Suddenly he sees visions - flashes of scenes unknown to him. (Actually they are moments from the future, from the year 2376.) He sees the warp core with no one near it...

....a much older Kes (Older Kes) touching the warp core, and hurling a bolt of energy at Torres...

....and Torres, prone on the floor!

The voices finally become too much. Torres sees him as he swings around disorientated. Tuvok collapses. Torres exclaims: "Hey!"

She hurries over to him. She taps her combadge. "Torres to Sickbay, medical emergency."
