GOOD SHEPHERD : Episode 140 : Part D

The lifeform hurls itself onto Telfer's console and taps into the environmental controls.

Harren grabs a phaser and aims it. Janeway orders him to hold his fire. But Harren ignores the order and fires, vapourising the lifeform. Furious, Janeway says the entity was probably just trying to communicate with the crew.

Telfer recovers enough to report that he heard the entity's thoughts: "Do not belong." Harran interprets this to mean that it was a threat - that they, the Delta Flyer crew, did not belong, but he is gainsaid when the other interpretation becomes clear, that the entity was talking about itself, that it did not belong on the Delta Flyer. It had tapped into the environmental controls to try and make the place suitable for itself.
The Delta Flyer arrives at the orbital rings of the gas giant.
The Delta Flyer in the orbital rings.

Janeway treats Telfer's neck injury.
Telfer: "I always had this alarm in my head, sort of an internal red alert, it was like a warning system that would tell me I was sick or dying or something. ... It was always there."
Janeway: "And now it's not?"
Telfer: "It's gone. I don't understand."
Janeway: "Maybe I do. When I was a girl, I was afraid of the ocean. I liked to swim, but in a pool or a pond where I knew exactly what was beneath me, but in the open water - was no way to know what was down there - scared me to death. It wasn't until my first year at the Academy, after I went through zero-g training in the Coral Sea, that I finally got over it. I think you just came up from your first deep dive."

Suddenly the glowing particles in the gas giant's ring start to move like a tidal wave - an unknown force is heading toward the Delta Flyer.

Janeway orders the crew to get into the escape pods, to plot a course away from the area and wait for rescue by Voyager, but Celes says that a crew never abandons its captain and she remains. Telfer does too but Harran is launched in an escape pod. Janeway says that firing phasers will ignite the radiogenic particles and hopefully throw off the unknown force.
Harran changes the course of his escape pod towards the unknown force. He says that if the force has to take him on it will win the others extra time to charge up the warp core and escape.
Delta Flyer escape pod. Janeway decides to rescue Harran and transport the escape pod back on board the Delta Flyer.

The Delta Flyer's phaser fire ignites a chain reaction among the radiogenic particles, causing a blazing ball of fire in the face of the unknown force. But despite heading away from the area as fast as possible, at warp 2 presumably, the shockwave gains on the Delta Flyer and blazing light fills the cockpit. Then all goes blank for the crew.

Janeway wakes in Voyager's Sickbay. Chakotay said they found the Delta Flyer drifting and the crew unconscious. They will be fine. Janeway struggles to sit up enough to look round and make sure her crew are safe.

Chakotay: "What happened?"
Janeway: "The Good Shepherd went after some lost sheep and ran into a wolf."
Chakotay:" Did she find them?"
Janeway: "I think she did."
