COLLECTIVE : Episode 136 : Part D

Tuvok: "Captain, I've found a fluctuation in their shield grid near a plasma duct. It's too intermittent to beam out the hostages but we could use it to deploy the pathogen. Captain?" Janeway: "Not yet." Tuvok: "There is no alternative." Janeway: "There's always an alternative. We just need to find it. Their tractor beam draws power from the same grid as their shield matrix. If we use the deflector to send a feedback pulse along the beam it could disrupt their shields. Do it." Torres: "Re-routeing warp plasma. If this doesn't work it'll do us more damage than the cube." Janeway: "It'll work. Prepare to fire."

Seven: "You have no future with the Borg but you do with Voyager. A chance to reclaim your real lives." First: "What do you know about real lives?" Seven: "Does he speak for all of you? You should make your decisions yourself, as individuals."

Icheb: "They're sending a feedback pulse along our tractor beam. It's overloading our shield matrix."
As the Borg cube's shields start dropping, Voyager manages to beam Paris, Chakotay and Neelix from the cube into Transporter Room 2. But Seven and Harry are in an area of the cube which is shielded. Janeway orders the feedback pulse to be amplified.
Icheb: "The shields around this room are failing. Instructions?"
But First is at a loss and does not know what to do.
Seven: "Lower your shields. Lower the shields!"
When she accesses the control panel to do this, First pushes her away. As Seven gets up from the floor, First looks at the controls and then hangs his head, not knowing how to defeat Voyager's attack on the cube's shields. Losing self-control, he picks up two spherical-looking objects and hurls himself at Seven to assault her, but Icheb blocks his way and wrestles the objects from him.
Icheb: "Leave her alone."
First: "Get back to your station. Do what I say."
Icheb: "I thought we were a collective."
Mezoti: "One mind, one voice."
First: "I protected you, gave you order."
Icheb: "Your order, your rules."

Voyager's feedback charge overloads the Borg induction grids. Seven: "This vessel will be destroyed. We must evacuate." Refusing to accept this First accesses some controls but while touching them he is electrocuted and collapses, fatally injured.

Seven: "You are damaged. Lie still." First: "We must resist. The Collective will come for us." Seven: "His cortical implants are depolarising. I can't help him." Mezoti: "We'll find a new home. You'll see." Now dying, First grabs hold of Seven's arm and his final words are an appeal: "We are Borg." Seven: "Yes, we are Borg."

Janeway and Seven converse in the Captain's Ready Room. Janeway: "We've sent out calls to any Brunali and Norcadian ships that might be in the vicinity, but we haven't gotten any responses so far, and we're still trying to work out where the other two came from. It may take a while." Seven: "They could use the time. They have a great deal to learn." Janeway: "It might help if they had someone around who knew what they're up against." Seven: "I've never been responsible for children. Mr Neelix would be a wiser choice." Janeway: "From what I've seen you're the one they've established a bond with. They'll be looking to you for guidance." Seven: "Perhaps I could help them avoid some of the obstacles I've encountered."

Seven: "Computer, decrease ambient lighting by sixty per cent."   To the children: "Good night. Sweet dreams."
