In Engineering, a female crewmember removes a large component from a maintenance access drawer and hands it to another female engineer who says: "Thank you."

Seven scans the area discreetly and ends up at a console near the warp core (station 31). 2371-era Joe Carey sees her and comes over. "Hello." Seven: "Sir." 2371-Carey: "Lieutenant Carey. I don't think we've met." Seven: "Jameson, Anna, Service number 860790."

2371-Carey: "I'm not Security. I'm just trying to get to know all the new faces around here. What are you working on?" Seven: "I am attempting to re-align the EPS manifolds." 2371-Carey: "Do you need a hand?" Seven: "No."

2371-Carey: "Well, maybe I'll see you in the Messhall later." Seven: "Unlikely." 2371-Carey: "Hmm?" Seven: "I am not a member of Voyager's crew. I'm on assignment here at Utopia Planitia." 2371-Carey: "Too bad. Well, next time I'm in the neighbourhood I'll drop by and say hello."

Seven goes to the set of doors by the main entrance which give onto the Jefferies tube network. The doors open and she goes in. No one sees her do so.

The tour continues. They are in the corridor leading to Main Engineering. 2371-Janeway: "I wish Starfleet would give me more than three weeks. With a little more time we could really explore the Badlands." 2371-Patterson: "You haven't changed a bit."

They enter Engineering.

2371-Patterson: "Main engineering. Class 9 warp drive, tricyclic input manifold. You'll be the first to test it in deep space."

2371-Janeway approaches the warp core and looks up at it.

Meanwhile, Seven is inside the Jefferies tube network, in a crawlway. She reaches a hatch. She gets out a 29th century tricorder, inputs into it, and looks at the read-out.

She goes through the hatch and closes it behind her.

She checks the tricorder again, then puts it away and opens a panel.

She sees a device inside it that does not belong there.

Seven, via Relativity's comms: "I've localised the temporal distortions. Deck 4, section 39. I've found the weapon." Only Seven can see the device, due to her Borg ocular cybernetic implant.

Ducane, via Relativity's comms: "Begin the procedure." Accordingly she gets out an instrument and passes it over the device.

In Engineering, an audio alert sounds and Carey goes to the console to investigate. 2371-Janeway, coming over: "Problem?" 2371-Carey: "One of the EPS relays just went offline." 2371-Janeway to 2371-Patterson: "Voyager's first malfunction." 2371-Carey: "I'm sorry, Captain. I tested those systems this morning." 2371-Janeway, stopping him as he goes to press controls: "As you were, Lieutenant. I've been looking forward to getting my hands dirty." She presses some controls. "Mm," she says as the read-out localises the EPS relay concerned.

She heads for the Jefferies tube network, followed by 2371-Patterson.

In the Jefferies tube. Seven, via Relativity's comms: "The weapon is out of phase. You've sent me to the wrong time frame." Ducane, via Relativity's comms: "At least we know where the weapon was placed. Now we have to determine when."

2371-Janeway, holding up her tricorder at the door to the Jefferies tube network: "This hatch is locked from the inside." 2371-Patterson: "This isn't a secure area. None of these hatches should be sealed." 2371-Janeway: "I'm reading some kind of chronoton flux." 2371-Patterson: "Chronotons?" 2371-Janeway: "It's coming from inside this Jefferies tube." 2371-Patterson taps his combadge. "Patterson to Security. Seal off Deck 4."

In the Jefferies tube. Seven, hearing her tricorder's audio alert, via Relativity's comms: "I've been detected. I must leave." Captain Braxton, via Relativity's comms: "There's too much interference from the weapon. Recalibrate your temporal transport beacon." Seven, via Relativity's comms: "Understood."

2371-Janeway, heading along a corridor to a hatch: "We can access section 39 through here."

She opens the hatch.

She goes inside the Jefferies tube crawlway, followed by 2371-Patterson.

In the Jefferies tube. Ducane, via Relativity's comms: "Scramble the locking mechanism before they get in. Hurry, they're approaching your co-ordinates. You'll need to reset the command controls. Stand by. We're trying to get you out of there."

USS Relativity. Braxton: "It's time. Pull her out." Ducane: "There's too much interference. If I transport her now we'll damage her bionetic implants."

Braxton: "If we don't, Captain Janeway's going to find her and it'll contaminate the timeline."

Ducane: "Sir-" Braxton: "Now." Relativity Officer: "Temporal transport in progress."

2371-Janeway and 2371-Patterson find their way to Deck 4 section 39. They enter through the hatchway, with her leading. The hatch closes as she looks at her tricorder. 2371-Janeway: "Question, Admiral: what causes a chronoton flux of .003?" 2371-Patterson: "I don't know." 2371-Janeway: "Neither do I, but whoever or whatever it was," she closes her tricorder, "it's gone now."

USS Relativity.

As Ducane and Braxton hurry to the transporter platform, the Relativity Officer reports: "The subject is approaching the temporal threshold."

As Braxton and Ducane watch, the transporting aboard of Seven begins.

Seven is successfully beamed aboard.

But she collapses. Ducane hurries over to her and scans her with his tricorder. He turns and looks at Braxton: "I told you this was going to happen. She's dead."

USS Relativity.

Ducane enters bridge as Braxton is at the controls: "Any luck reviving her?" Ducane: "No, sir."

Braxton: "We'll have to recruit her again."

Ducane: "Sir, a fourth jump? She could suffer neural damage, even temporal psychosis."

Braxton: "Unless we repair the timeline, she's going to die. We're giving her another chance to save her crew and herself. We'll go back and retrieve Seven of Nine a microsecond before the explosion. That way no one will notice she's gone. Tempus fugit, Lieutenant." ("Tempus fugit" is Latin for "time flies".)

Ducane to the crew: "Raise shields. Time frame: Stardate 52861.274, Delta Quadrant. Spatial co-ordinates: eighty-seven theta by two seventy-one. Target: USS Voyager."

The crew input the co-ordinates.
