RELATIVITY
Episode 118
Part A
![]() | Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards, in the year 2371. |
![]() | USS Voyager at Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards, being got ready for the mission into the Badlands to find the Maquis ship captained by Chakotay and his crew including Tuvok, who is a secret Starfleet agent in Chakotay's crew. |
![]() | In the transporter room of USS Voyager, 2371-Janeway is beamed aboard by the transporter officer. |
![]() | Admiral Patterson is waiting for her, with Crewman McKenzie behind him. (The Admiral is designated "2371-Patterson".) He remarks: "You're late."
2371-Janeway: "Sorry, sir." |
![]() | 2371-Patterson: "What's the threshold of the H-two molecule?"
2371-Janeway: "14.7 electron volts." |
![]() | 2371-Patterson: "Third brightest star in Orion?"
2371-Janeway: "Viewed from where?" 2371-Patterson: "Earth." 2371-Janeway: "Gamma Orionis, or Bellatrix, if you prefer the original Arabic name." |
![]() | 2371-Patterson: "Not bad. Now, give me a hug, Katie, that's an order." |
![]() | 2371-Janeway, hugging him and smiling: "I wasn't expecting a pop quiz." |
![]() | 2371-Janeway: "700,000 metric tonnes, fifteen decks, computer systems augmented with bio-neural circuitry, top cruising speed warp 9.975." |
![]() | A crewman presses the button to summon a turbolift for them, and the doors open. They enter the turbolift. |
2371-Patterson to the computer: "Deck 1." The turbolift begins its journey.
2371-Janeway: "Of course, I expect to get that up another notch or two."
"Deck 1" omitted
2371-Patterson: "Sounds like you already know your ship pretty well."
![]() | 2371-Janeway: "I've been buried in Voyager's schematics for the past three months. I could walk the corridors blindfolded." |
![]() | 2371-Janeway: "As you were." Everyone resumes work. |
She tells 2371-Patterson: "It's bigger than I expected."
2371-Patterson: "Schematics never fully prepare you for the real thing."
![]() | Seeing Janeway slowly approaching and looking at the captain's chair: "Try it on." |
![]() | She sits down. He tells her: "Don't get too comfortable, I have more to show you." |
![]() | She gets up and they enter the Captain's Ready Room.
2371-Patterson: "Your home away from home." |
![]() | 2371-Janeway, going over to the replicator: "Coffee?"
2371-Patterson: "Ah, no thanks." 2371-Janeway to the computer: "Coffee, black." |
![]() | As she collects her coffee: "Any word from Tuvok?"
2371-Patterson: "Not yet." |
![]() | 2371-Janeway: "Shouldn't he have made contact by now?"
2371-Patterson: "We know he's aboard Chakotay's ship. He's probably decided not to risk exposure until he has to." 2371-Janeway: "Catching up with him in the Badlands is going to be tricky, even in a ship as quick and smart as Voyager. I've heard about a pilot who might make the job easier." 2371-Patterson: "Who's that?" 2371-Janeway: "Tom Paris." |
![]() | 2371-Patterson: "Admiral Paris' son? Correct me if I'm wrong, but he's serving a sentence for-" |
![]() | 2371-Janeway: "He's made some mistakes, but everybody deserves a second chance."
2371-Patterson: "I'll look into it." |
![]() | They eventually go back to the Bridge.
2371-Janeway: "If it's not too late I'd like to recalibrate the navigational sensors. I think I can enhance the range." 2371-Patterson: "Your coffee's not even cold, you're already making changes." 2371-Janeway: "Excuse us, Ensign." |
![]() | The Ensign gets up from the installation or maintenance work she is apparently doing and moves away - it is Seven of Nine! What is she doing there, in this time frame?!?! |
![]() | Meanwhile, 2371-Janeway continues to 2371-Patterson: "I like a ship that knows where it's going."
2371-Patterson: "I assure you, Voyager has the best sensors in the fleet." Seven of Nine heads towards the Briefing Room. 2371-Janeway: "There's always room for improvement." Their conversation continues, with him saying: "I assume you've read....." and she replies "I have, but a few changes..." (their words are faded out under music) |
![]() | In the Briefing Room, Seven scans with her tricorder.
Seven, via comms: "The Bridge is clear. There's no sign of the weapon." She is speaking to a Federation (starship-cum-)timeship in the 29th century. The Federation timeship is named USS Relativity. It is commanded by Captain Braxton. Ducane, the timeship's First Officer, replies via Relativity's comms: "Continue scanning." Seven, via Relativity's comms: "Acknowledged." |
![]() | At that moment, 2371-Patterson shows 2371-Janeway into the room. Seven turns away and pretends to access the wall monitor.
2371-Patterson to 2371-Janeway: "Your Briefing Room." |
![]() | 2371-Janeway: "Starfleet's most up-to-date vessel and they still can't design a comfortable place to hold a meeting." Patterson chuckles. She sees Seven. "What do you think, Ensign?"
Seven: "Captain?" 2371-Janeway: "What's your opinion of this room?" |
![]() | Seven gives it a quick look round: "It is an efficient design."
2371-Janeway: "Well, there you have it, Admiral. It's efficient. I must be wrong." She puts down her mug. To Seven: "Carry on." |
Seven re-enters the Bridge as 2371-Janeway and 2371-Patterson leave by the corridor.
![]() | The tour continues. They enter Sickbay.
2371-Patterson: "We've added a new system we're thinking of installing throughout the fleet." |
![]() | 2371-Janeway: "The Emergency Medical Hologram. I'm up to date. Computer, activate EMH."
The 2371-Doctor materialises. |
![]() | The 2371-Doctor says: "Please state the nature of the medical emergency."
![]() |
![]() | 2371-Patterson: "It's programmed with over four million surgical procedures."
Doctor: "Five million, and the medical knowledge of over three thousand cultures." 2371-Janeway: "Impressive." 2371-Doctor: "Did you call me to chitchat or is there an actual emergency?" |
![]() | 2371-Janeway to Patterson: "Its personality could use some work." |
![]() | 2371-Doctor: "I'm designed to practice medicine as efficiently as possible. Small talk only compromises my performance." |
![]() | 2371-Patterson: "Thank you, Doctor. Computer, deactivate EMH." The 2371-Doctor is taken offline and disappears. | ![]() |
