THE DISEASE : Episode 111 : Part A

Picture is from later in the episode but is shown here for contextual reasons.
Voyager, docked with the Varro generational ship. The Varro ship was originally not much bigger than USS Voyager and was intended for space exploration. But after travelling for 400 years it has become an enormous ship comprising thousands of identical segments each containing a generational pod, and its population has swelled.

Kim and Derran Tal skive from work duties to meet in her quarters where they make love.
Jippeq and Janeway in the control room of the Varro ship. Voyager is helping the Varro repair their warp drive but the Varro are a people distrustful of strangers.

Tal: "Come back to bed."
Kim: "I can't sleep."
Tal: "Cuddle."
Kim: "I can't cuddle."
Tal: "I told you, we're not going to get caught. If someone had seen us, they would've reported it by now."
Kim: "I'm violating about half a dozen regulations just by being in this room."
When they hear the warp engines are back on line they realise they must hurry back to work in case they are missed. In his haste to dress, Kim accidentally tries to put on Tal's uniform until Tal tells him. He says they should arrive back at their jobs separately.

Kim's absence has not gone unnoticed.
Paris: "Just trying to orchestrate the anti-matter flow."
Torres: "You should try some Chopin when you're done." As Kim arrives, "Look who showed up for the final movement."
Kim: "Excuse me?"
Paris: "Just a little late for the joke, as well as the job."
Kim: "I was checking the manifolds in Segement 22."
Paris does not believe him. Tal enters.

Jippeq: "Warp reaction's de-stabilising. Tal?"
Tal: "I can't find the problem."
Janeway: "We're less than a minute away from multiple core breaches. Abort the transfer."
Torres detects microfractures all over the hull of the Varro ship.
Jippeq: "Why couldn't we detect that before?"
Janeway: "Good question. We'll have to check the hulls of each of your vessel's segements."
Jippeq: "But that could take days."
Janeway: "The sooner we start the sooner we finish."

Paris and Kim return from the Varro ship and exit from a transporter room and head for Kim's quarters.
Paris: "Friendly people."
Kim: "They've had a lot of bad experiences with other species."
Paris: "Well, I don't know. Seems like your first contact went pretty well."
Kim: "What's that supposed to mean?"
Paris: "I'm just wondering where you disappeared to today."
Kim: "I told you: I was checking the plasma conduits in Segment 22."
Paris: "In Segement 22, I know. They must have sonic showers over there. You're much cleaner than when you left. You are such a lousy liar Haven't you learned anything from me over the past five years? She's cute."
Kim: "Who?"
Paris: "That assistant engineer, Tal."
Kim: "Cute enough."
Paris: "Oh, here we go again."
Kim: "What?"
Paris: "You. Going after impossible women: a hologram, an ex-Borg, the wrong twin, and now a girl from a xenophobic species?"
Kim: "You're right, you're absolutely right. I'm putting her out of my mind. I promise."
Paris: "Good, glad to hear it."

Kim: "Computer, open a channel to Varro ship Segment 16, station 204, and encode transmission with security protocol alpha seven." Tal has been waiting 22 minutes for Kim to call.
Tal: "So you liked what happened?"
Kim: "Alot."
Tal: "Enough to try it again?"
Kim: "Absolutely."

Paris: "I'm telling ya, you should take a look at their database. They've got some pretty amazing stuff on that ship."
Tuvok: "Stuff?"
Paris: "Their environmental control systems, for instance. It's completely regenerative. Zero waste."
Tuvok: "Impressive."
Paris: "It can be programmed to create almost any habitat. If you wanted to, you could create Vulcan in your quarters with that system."
Tuvok: "Why would I want to?"
Paris: "A little taste of home in the Delta Quadrant. Think about it: springtime on the shores of Lake Yarren."
Tuvok: "I require a desk and a bed, nothing more."
Paris: "You're missing the point."
Tuvok: "No doubt."
Paris: "These people have been travelling for 400 years. They've learned a thing or two about living comfortably."
Tuvok: "Our systems are more than adequate."
Paris: "Aargh, I give up."
Chakotay: "After only two minutes? Tuvok, how do you do it?"
Tuvok: "I wait until his own illogic overwhelms him."

Tuvok and Chakotay detect an unauthorised encoded transmission to the Varro ship. When they track it to the Varro ship, Segment 16, living quarters, Paris realises that it is must be Kim communicating with Tal. He knocks out the signal and passes off the transmission as a glitch in the com. system.

Next day, during a general group briefing by Chakotay in Cargo Bay 2, Paris and Kim have a secret conversation.
Paris: "You owe me."
Kim: "What?"
Paris: "Eyes front. Last night I had to sabotage the com. system to cover your tracks. You called her, didn't you?"
Kim: "Guilty."
Paris: "How long has this been going on - the truth?"
Kim: "From the moment we first saw each other it was like touching an open plasma relay."
Paris: "Sounds serious."
Kim: "Maybe it is."
Paris: "Has it occurred to you that you're breaking a few dozen protocols?"
Kim: "We know what we're getting into."
Paris: "Do you?"
