DARK FRONTIER Episodes 109 & 110 Part N

 

Aboard the Delta Flyer, the scans Seven for medical problems, but there are none.

Doctor: "Welcome back."

Paris: "Three vessels, closing fast!" Tuvok: "Direct hit to our tactical array. Weapons are down." Janeway: "Bring the coil online. Prepare for transwarp. Tom?" Paris: "Transwarp in 4....3....2..........."

The Delta Flyer enters a transwarp conduit. The Borg Queen's vessel hurtles ahead of the cubes.
Paris: "A vessel entered the conduit with us just before it closed."

The Borg Queen's vessel pursues the Delta Flyer.....

......and opens fire. Tuvok: "They're targetting our engines." Janeway: "Maintain course." Paris: "Direct hit on the port nacelle. We're venting plasma!" Tuvok: "Re-routing emergency power." Paris: "It's not enough. I'll need thirty teradynes at least or we'll lose transwarp."

Janeway: "How long to the rendezvous co-ordinates?" Paris: "2.4 minutes, but we'll drop out of transwarp in less than one." Janeway: "Reroute power from life support." Doctor: "Captain!" Janeway: "I'd rather suffocate than vapourise. Do it!"

USS Voyager, waiting at the rendezvous co-ordinates.

Voyager's Bridge. Torres: "I'm picking up transwarp signatures. There's a conduit approaching, 30,000 kilometres off our port bow." Chakotay: "Battle stations."

Klaxons sound and lights dim. Chakotay readies himself. He does not know if there will be the Delta Flyer or Borg ships coming out of the conduit.

Delta Flyer. Paris: "We're twenty seconds from normal space." Janeway: "The Borg vessel?" Tuvok: "Still in pursuit, closing rapidly." Paris: "Fifteen seconds." Seven: "They're trying to lock on with a tractor beam." Janeway: "Remodulate shields."

Paris: "Threshold in 8....7....6-" Tuvok: "They're locking on." Paris: "5....4...." Seven: "I've re-polarised the shields. It's being deflected." Paris: "3....2...."

Voyager's Bridge. Torres: "They're through." Chakotay, via comms: "Voyager to Delta Flyer. Report!" Janeway, via comms: "We've got Seven, but there's a Borg vessel right behind us."

Chakotay: "B'Elanna, target the threshold perimeter. Photon torpedoes, full spread." Torres: "Commander?" Chakotay: "It should destabilise the matter stream, and implode the conduit for at least a light year." Torres: "Torpedoes locked." Chakotay: "Fire!"

Voyager fires photon torpedoes.

Torpedoes speed toward the transwarp conduit.

The conduit starts to implode.

The conduit is destroyed.

Janeway, via comms: "Voyager, report." Chakotay, via comms: "We collapsed the conduit. No sign of Borg activity." Janeway, via comms: "Clear us for docking. We're coming home."

Bridge. Torres: "Commander, I'm picking up Borg signatures. Lots of them." Chakotay: "Source?" Torres: "The conduit." Chakotay: "I thought you collapsed it." Torres: "So did I." Chakotay: "Stand by weapons." Via comms: "Captain, raise shields. We've got company."

Janeway and Seven look at each other. Have they come this far only to be destroyed by the Borg?

Torres: "Here they come."

The Borg Queen's vessel, in millions of pieces, bursts out of the remains of the conduit.

Janeway: "Captain's log, stardate 52619.2. We got another 20,000 light years out of the transwarp coil before it gave out. I figure we're a good fifteen years closer to home."

Janeway enters Cargobay 2. Seven is working at the computer console. Janeway: "I see you picked up some bad habits." Seven: "Captain?" Janeway: "The Doctor told you to regenerate for at least two days. You're violating a direct medical command." Seven: "I will comply when my work is completed."

Janeway: "Borg tactical data?"
Seven: "During my time at Unimatrix One I acquired a vast amount of knowledge. It may prove useful in our future encounters with the Borg. I am downloading it into Voyager's database."

As it downloads, Seven says: "The Borg believed I was unique, that I understood Humanity. They were obviously mistaken." Janeway: "How so?"

Seven: "I betrayed the crew of Voyager, threatened you with assimilation. I did not expect you to return for me." Janeway: "Looks like you still have a few things to learn. Time to regenerate." Seven: "When I am finished." Janeway: "No, now. That's an order."

Seven: "Yes, Captain." She goes to her alcove. Janeway: "Sweet dreams."

Seven, regenerating. There is nothing like regenerating in your home alcove, and Seven's home is Voyager. Having returned to a previous "home", the Unicomplex, has made her more certain than ever.

Over 20,000 light years nearer home, Voyager continues the onward journey.

Voyager travels homeward.
