Q2
Season 7 : Episode 165

MEDICAL REPORT:

The crew is caught by surprise when Q and his now adolescent son Q2 arrive on board Voyager. Q admits to Janeway that he does not know how to handle the boy. He was conceived to inspire peace and compassion but instead is wreaking chaos throughout the universe, and now he wreaks havoc on Voyager. One of Q2's pranks is to trap the crew in a temporal loop which keeps repeating every 30 seconds; the effects are not seen in the episode; the effect would include the Doctor and any activity in Sickbay at the time. Neelix's jaw is fused and his vocal cords removed by Q2. The Doctor is able to undo some of the cosmetic damage but Q has to repair the rest. The Q Continuum has ordered Q to straighten the rebellious teenager out. Not knowing how, Q leaves him with Janeway, hopeing that her Starfleet ideals will rub off on his son. Sadly amused, she explains that the boy needs proper parenting and to understand the consequences of his actions. She starts to reform Q2 but he is depressed and disappointed when his father mocks his efforts. Q2 takes his new-found friend Iheb through a spatial flexure to another system where they meet a Chokuzan ship, whose commander demands their surrender. Q2 fires on the ship and tries to escape, but the Chokuzans fire back and a bolt of energy injures Icheb and knocks him unconscious. Q2 returns to Voyager. The Doctor ascertains that Icheb's cells are being necrotised by some form of omicron radiation but says he cannot treat Icheb unless he knows more about the Chozukan weapon. Q appears but refuses to save Icheb's life, telling his son he has to face the consequences of his actions. Q2 accompanies Janeway to the Chokuzan ship that he attacked and apologises. When the commander threatens to hold Janeway accountable for the boy's actions, Q2 objects, insisting on accepting punishment himself. Then the Chokuzan commander reveals himself to be Q in disguise, administering a test that his son has passed with flying colours. After Q assures Janeway that Icheb will make a miraculous recovery, the two Qs and Janeway appear before a tribunal of Q judges. The judges, however, rule that the young Q has not made sufficient progress and must remain human. Returning to Voyager, he asks if he can stay and continue his training, but his father appears and explains that he forced the judges to reverse their decision. Q2's powers have been restored, and he leaves Voyager on Q's promise to be a better father. Q2 thanks Janeway and fills her Ready Room with roses. To express his own gratitude, Q gives Janeway data on a shortcut home, but he refuses to take Voyager all the way because it would set a bad example for his son.

DOCTOR'S QUOTE:

Diagnosis of Icheb: "His cells are being necrotised by some form of omicron radiation, but I can't treat his injuries without knowing more about the weapon that caused them."
