MEDICAL REPORT:

The Voyager crew mount a difficult operation to rescue the crew of the Delta Flyer which has been crippled and embedded 3 kilometres beneath a planetoid's rock surface. The endangered shuttle crew, who are trapped in an underground cavern flooded with fluorine gas, includes Ensign Samantha Wildman, mother of young Naomi, who is severely injured, requiring surgery. Meanwhile, Neelix takes charge of Naomi, who is his god-daughter, trying to keep her occupied and unaware of her mother's predicament. Naomi learns for herself and, at first angry with Neelix, she and he eventually find strength together to cope with the concept of loss. The Delta Flyer and crew are rescued. Ensign Wildman's injuries are treated in Sickbay, whereupon she and Naomi are reunited.

MEDICAL ADMINISTRATION:

Neelix has half a dozen medkits (medical kits) stockpiled in Cargobay 2.

DOCTOR'S LOG:

The Doctor has been giving Naomi botany lessons.

DOCTOR'S QUOTE:
