DOCTOR'S LOG:

Chakotay and Tuvok make a reconnaissance of an alien re-creation of Starfleet Headquarters which they have spent weeks tracking down after detecting what looked like a Federation subspace transmission. It is created using a combination of holographic projection and particle synthesis to create the Earthlike environment, and has 13 thermionic generators beneath the habitat. The habitat is heavily fortified and well-prepared to defend against attack. It looks like preparation to infiltrate Earth. The Starfleet population must be imposters. When one of the imposters, called "Ensign Gentry", impedes Chakotay's and Tuvok's return from the mission, they are forced to render him unconscious and bring him to Voyager. In Sickbay "Gentry" is horrified when he realises that the environment is not a re-created simulation for test purposes but a real Federation Starship. "Gentry" commits suicide by releasing a quick-acting toxin into his bloodstream.

"Gentry" regains consciousness in Voyager's Sickbay. He is not at first aware that it is a real Federation Starship and that those present are not Species 8472.

"Gentry" realises he is among humans as the Doctor goes to take a sample of his DNA. "Gentry" kills himself.

The Doctor uses a cytokinetic injection on his dead body to trigger a genetic reversion to reveal the imposter's true form - that of Species 8472.

In light of the evidence of a planned invasion of Earth, Janeway orders military preparations against Species 8472. Preparations include arming Voyager with Borg nanoprobes extracted from Seven and modified. The Doctor discovered in  [#68 and #69 Scorpion] that modified nanoprobes are able to counteract the cell-destroying attacks of Species 8472.

Seven wears a blue outfit for the first time; this would have been designed by the Doctor, ref.  [#70 The Gift] and  [#116 Someone To Watch Over Me].
