DOCTOR'S LOG:

On a Hirogen ship, a member of Species 8472, after inflicting casualties on Hirogen hunting it as prey, escapes and enters Voyager. The injured Hirogen is treated on Voyager by the Doctor. The Hirogen's immune system neutralises every sedative the Doctor has. Hirogen body armour is designed to handle rapid pressure fluctuations. The Hirogen informs Janeway that if he is not allowed to continue hunting the alien, he will allow the approaching Hirogen ships to destroy Voyager. Realising they need his help to locate the member of Species 8472, Janeway releases the Hirogen from Sickbay. Knowing from the Doctor's research during their previous encounter with Species 8472, in click for MEDICAL LOGS episode entry [#68 and #69 Scorpion], that Species 8742 is susceptible to Borg nanoprobes, Tuvok and Seven arm phaser rifles with the microscopic weapons and track the alien intruder. They soon corner the wounded intruder, planning to stun it. Species 8472's blood contains a dense mixture of DNA and polyfluidic compounds. When cornered, it tries to barricade itself. Species 8472 emits a bio-electric field, making it impossible for the Doctor to scan. Through telepathic contact with Tuvok, the member of Species 8472 explains that its ship was damaged during a conflict with the Borg. It has been trapped alone, wounded and hunted by the Hirogen, and just wants to get home.

Alpha Hirogen in Sickbay

the Doctor encounters the member of Species 8472

Despite Hirogen threats, Janeway orders Seven to open a singularity to the realm of Species 8472 to help it go home. Citing the Borg history with Species 8472 and the danger it represents, Seven refuses to help the alien escape and even beams the alien and the Hirogen to a Hirogen ship where the alien doubtless is killed.

Earlier, the Doctor suggests himself as Seven's "personality mentor". He and Kes created exercises three years ago to familiarise himself with social graces. In a number of episodes from now onwards he assists Seven with various "social lessons".
