YEAR OF HELL, Part 2
Season 4 : Episode 77

DOCTOR'S LOG:

The following information occurs in an alternate timeline and is not true at the end of the episode. The Doctor has repaired the optronic error in his program. It was this problem that took him offline for several months during the timeline experienced by Kes in click for MEDICAL LOGS episode entry [#63 Before And After].

MEDICAL REPORT:

Under Starfleet Medical Regulation 121, Section A, the Doctor, as the chief medical officer, can relieve the captain of active command. (In the 23rd century, noted in [TOS: The Doomsday Machine], Order 104 Section C of Starfleet General Orders is noted, stating that the chief medical officer may relieve a commander of duty if the commander is mentally or physically unfit. The physician would have to back up this claim with the results of a physical examination.) He does so in the alternate timeline, after she accesses the manual controls in Deflector Control and suffers severe burns, citing: "Traumatic stress syndrome. Symptoms: irritability, sleeplessness, obsessional thoughts, reckless behaviour, all of which you've demonstrated over the last few weeks." Her failure to adhere to his order is a court-martial offence. When the timeline is restored, the incident does not occur.

Janeway: "You'd better grab a phaser, because before I give up command you'll have to shoot me." Doctor: "You realise this incident will be noted in my official logs. By refusing my orders, you risk a general court-martial."

The following also occur in an alternate timeline and are not true at the end of the story. The alveoli in Janeway's lungs are chemically burned when she carries out an emergency repair. She refuses treatment, only accepting a hypospray injection of trioxin to help her breathe. She later suffers third-degree burns over 60 per cent of her body, leaving her with scars on her arms and face, because the Doctor does not have a dermal regenerator.

MORGUE RECORD:

The crew complement returns to its previous number when the timeline resets, which means that those who die in the first part of the story are also restored.

STAR TREK CONTEXTUAL MEDICAL GLOSSARY:

Dermal regenerator.

DOCTOR'S QUOTE:

On Janeway demanding he administer her trioxin instead of being properly treated: "Aye, aye. It's your body. Who am I to judge? I'm only the Chief Medical Officer. What do I know?"
