MEDICAL REPORT:

Chakotay comes under weapons fire during a survey mission and makes an emergency beam-out to the planet surface from his shuttlecraft. He is captured by the Vori and brain-washed into fighting for them against the Kradin. The Kradin and the Vori have been at war for more than a decade and each refer to the other as the Nemesis. The Vori have dozens of training facilities where they conscript their own people and any aliens they capture. The Doctor believes they use a combination of mind-control techniques, including photometric projections, heightened emotional stimuli, and highly sophisticated psychotropic manipulation affecting the subject's hypothalamus in such a way that he will believe anything he is told.

Chakotay believes he has arrived at a Vori village but it is actually a simulation

With aid from the Kradin, Tuvok retrieves Chakotay and the Doctor removes the brain-washing elements, though Chakotay remarks to Janeway that he wishes it was as easy to stop hating as it was to start.

To Chakotay: "My guess is the Vori used a combination of mind control techniques, including photometric projections, heightened emotional stimuli, and highly sophisticated psychotropic manipulation.
