MEDICAL LOGS
SCORPION, Part 2
Season 4 : Episode 69
DOCTOR'S LOG:
Voyager's alliance with the Borg against Species 8472 is shaky, with the Voyager crew unable to trust the Borg. The Borg Collective suggests adding Borg nanoprobes to a multikinetic neutronic mine to create a weapon of mass destruction which, with a 5 million isoton yield, would affect an entire star system and the shockwave would disperse the nanoprobes over a radius of five light years. They would need approximately 50 trillion nanoprobes to arm this mine, which would take the Doctor several weeks to replicate. Janeway rejects the proposal.
MEDICAL REPORT:
Kim is cured of the disease by the Doctor using the Borg nanoprobe treatment described in the entry for Part 1 of this story. The Doctor says, in this Part of the story, that he has replicated nearly ten million Borg nanoprobes each of them reprogrammed to my specifications, each capable of targeting the alien tissue. They will assimilate the alien tissue, just momentarily. The Borg technology will denaturate within seconds, taking the alien tissue along with it. The Doctor injects Kim in the carotid artery and warns the patient he will feel a tingling sensation.

Every time Kes has a vision, specific regions of her cerebral cortex go into a state of hyperstimulation affecting memory engrams and perceptual centers, indicating that Species 8472 may be reading her mind.

Species 8472 bio-ships launch an attack against the Borg cube on which Seven of Nine, Janeway and Tuvok are working on the Doctor's nanoprobe research. The Borg sacrifice their vessel to preserve Voyager (which has the Doctor on board) and beam the three plus several drones to Voyager. During the attack Janeway suffers plasma burns to her thoracic region, internal bleeding and neural injuries. Her severe injuries require the Doctor to induce a coma to protect her higher brain functions.

Chakotay uses the Borg neurotransceiver he was fitted with in
[#59 Unity] to access the mind of Seven of Nine, the Borg's representative, with the access achieved through the technology in one of the Borg alcoves in Cargobay 2. The Doctor monitors Chakotay's condition through to when he collapses after Torres successfully severs Seven of Nine's mind from the Borg Collective. Seven of Nine is taken to Sickbay.

DOCTOR'S QUOTE:
![]() | After being ordered by Chakotay to keep all information about the nanoprobes in his holomatrix: "Don't worry. I'll delete myself at the first sign of trouble." He jokes: "Well, maybe not the first sign." Chakotay is not amused. |
