BEFORE AND AFTER
Season 3 : Episode 63

DOCTOR'S LOG:

The following is from the alternate future timeline depicted in the episode and is not true at the end of the episode: Due to Krenim attacks on Voyager, the Doctor is offline for months. After he comes back online, he gives himself a full head of hair and decides to name himself Doctor Van Gogh.

in the unrealised future, Kes is in the morilogium (the aged Kes is on the biobed in the background), and Doctor Van Gogh discusses with Captain Chakotay

MORGUE RECORD:

The following is from the alternate future timeline depicted in the episode and is not true at the end of the episode: Janeway, Torres, and nine others are killed in the first Krenim attack, resulting in Chakotay assuming the role of captain and Tuvok being promoted to commander.

MEDICAL REPORT:

Kes starts living her life backward, starting with her in the morilogium, the period at the end of an Ocampan's life (the longest-lived Ocampan from the home world lived nine years). The morilogium comes on abruptly and progresses at a speed the Doctor has never seen before. The Doctor conceives a bio-temporal chamber on the day of Kes' ninth birthday, designed to expose Kes to a bio-temporal field in an attempt to stop her aging process and extend her lifespan. The field reactivates the dormant chroniton particles in her cells, pushing Kes out of temporal sync with the rest of the crew The average body temperature of an Ocampan is 16.3 degrees Centigrade. To stop the jumps in time, somehow the crew must purge her of chroniton radiation, and the only way to do that is to find out the temporal variance of the Krenim chroniton torpedo which contaminated her. She is unable to control when she jumps, making her task harder. Kes continues jumping back in time, to the birth of Linnis her daughter by Tom Paris, and to the Krenim attack when she was exposed to the radiation. Finding the torpedo, she notes the temporal variance is 1.47 microseconds, then jumps again to a year earlier, where she warns Janeway to avoid Krenim space and gives the Doctor the information to program a bio-temporal chamber that will purge her system. They set up the bio-temporal chamber and expose her to a precisely modulated field of antichroniton particles. As the chroniton count begins to drop, Kes experiences several more jumps, eventually arriving at her moment of conception. Just as she ceases to exist, her body is purged and she awakens back in the period in which they were using the chamber to eliminate the chroniton particles. She is restored to the normal timeline at an age of three years and two months old at the end of the episode.

DOCTOR'S QUOTE:

At staff meeting: "In approximately six months, I will apparently expose Kes to some type of bio-temporal field in a highly experimental, but nonetheless brilliant, attempt to stop her aging process. What I will apparently fail to realise is that the bio-temporal field is going to reactivate the dormant chronoton particles in her cells, bringing Kes out of temporal sync with the rest of us."
