MEDICAL LOGS
UNITY
Season 3 : Episode 59
MORGUE RECORD:
When Chakotay and Ensign Kaplan land their shuttlecraft in response to a distress call from a planet, they are set upon by a rogue group of the former Borg and Ensign Kaplan is killed. (A live Ensign Kaplan is mentioned in
[#118 Relativity]. The blooper was very belatedly, if unconvincingly, explained in TOSTFF which says there were two Ensign Kaplans.)
MEDICAL REPORT:
Chakotay's injuries are treated by Riley Frazier's co-operative via a neural transponder - see DOCTOR'S LOG. Presumably on return to Voyager the Doctor gives Chakotay a medical check-up.
DOCTOR'S LOG:
Voyager encounters a deactivated Borg cube and scans detect 1,100 drone corpses. The Borg Collective's consciousness allows them to transfer information instantaneously, to think with one mind, which also has inherent medical applications, as demonstrated by the former Borg co-operative of which Riley Frazier is a member. The Borg were connected by a continuous neuro-electric field that was capable of regenerating the damaged components of an injured Borg, and of healing both organic and inorganic body parts.
The Doctor studies and stores a Borg drone corpse. In the autopsy, the Doctor determines that the drone's pulmonary system exhibits evidence of extensive alveolar damage, as well as a slight swelling consistent with exposure to space. In addition, there are signs of severe cardiac depolarisation, making it appear that he was electrocuted. The Doctor accesses an axonal amplifier and inadvertently activates a backup neuro-electric power cell. The autonomic response causes the drone to reset back to its original programming.
DOCTOR'S QUOTE:
About the Borg drone corpse: "I must say, there's nothing like the vacuum of space for preserving a handsome corpse."
