MEDICAL LOGS
WARLORD
Season 3 : Episode 52
MORGUE RECORD:
The crew beams aboard three Ilarians named Tieran, Nori, and Adin, moments before their damaged ship explodes. Despite the Doctor's treatment (see MEDICAL REPORT), Tieran's host body dies as a result of the accident. Tieran, in the body of new host Kes, kills both a representative of the Ilari Autarch and also Ensign Martin, the transporter room operator. Later, the Doctor determines the reason for Kes' strange behaviour: a cortical implant is automatically activated at the moment of the host's death, which enhances Tieran's neural pattern, and sends it out along the peripheral nerves. The actual transfer takes place through bioelectric microfibres located in the hands. When he comes into direct contact with Kes at the moment of his host's death, Tieran's pattern is transferred through her nervous system and into her brain.

MEDICAL REPORT:
The Doctor orders Kes to treat the worst of the radiation burns of the three Ilari patients with a dermal regenerator and scan for contamination of the surrounding tissue. In an attempt to save the critically injured Ilarian named Tieran (actually Tieran's then current host body), the Doctor administers 20 milligrammes of lectrazine to restart his heart, but his biochemistry is incompatible and Tieran's host body dies.

Once it is revealed that Tieran's consciousness is inhabiting Kes, the Doctor develops a synaptic stimulator device designed to drive Tieran's consciousness from the host's body. The device has to be directly attached to the host's face.

Using the device, Tieran is driven from Kes' body but goes into the body of Ameron the usurped Autarch's youngest son, but Kes then applies the device to Ameron. With no other host body available, Tieran's consciousness dies.

LECTRAZINE:
This drug, administered to stabilise cavdiovascular and renal systems in humanoid patients, is used in
[#35 Lifesigns],
[#49 Sacred Ground], this episode and
[#75 Scientific Method], and a mixture of lectrazine and hyronalin is administered in
[#64 Real Life].
STAR TREK CONTEXTUAL MEDICAL GLOSSARY:
Dermal regenerator.
DOCTOR'S QUOTE:
To Janeway, Tuvok and Demmas: "I've identified the transfer mechanism. This cortical implant was automatically activated at the moment of death. It enhanced Tieran's neural pattern and sent it out along the peripheral nerves. The actual transfer took place," lifting one of the body's hands and passing the scanner over it, "through these bio-electric microfibres. When they came into direct contact with Kes they transmitted Tieran's pattern up through her nervous system and into her brain."
