INVESTIGATIONS
Season 2 : Episode 36

MEDICAL REPORT:

Crewman Michael Jonas is injured when, trying to stem an engine problem, he stays too long at a console which then explodes. Although his action is considered heroic, at least by Neelix in journalist mode, no one realises that Jonas caused the damage by sabotaging Voyager's engines (by deliberately putting the magnetic constrictors out of alignment). In Sickbay Jonas is treated for severe burns.

Kes reports that another patient has steady vital signs and second degree burns to face and chest; the Doctor orders him treated with the dermal regenerator." The Doctor examines another patient and diagnoses: "This one's not badly hurt. 20 milligrammes impedrezene."

Later, after Paris returns to Voyager after escaping captivity by the Kazon-Nistrim, his burns and other injuries are treated in Sickbay by the Doctor (the treatment is not seen on the television screen).

MORGUE RECORD:

The fight between Jonas and Neelix ends with Jonas plunging over a railing in upper Engineering and falling into a plasma stream which destroys him (such that there would be nothing left to store in the morgue).

Jonas dies horribly

DOCTOR'S LOG:

Following the inaugural daily shipwide broadcast 'A Briefing with Neelix', it takes little for Neelix to persuade the Doctor to gain public screen exposure by hosting a segment called 'Hints for Heathful Living'. The Doctor becomes increasingly irked when Neelix never has the time to include the segment on his first shows.

When Jonas is in Sickbay (see MEDICAL REPORT) the Doctor assumes that Neelix would want to interview not Jonas but himself. The Doctor informs Neelix, expecting him to report it in his daily shipwide broadcast 'A Briefing With Neelix': "The first task is to triage, or to assess the relative condition of each of the victims, and then to prioritise treatment accordingly." Neelix cuts him off, to the Doctor's annoyance.

STAR TREK CONTEXTUAL MEDICAL GLOSSARY:

DOCTOR'S QUOTE:

To Neelix's request to interview one of the patients: "One of the patients? I'd think you'd be more interested in my assessment of the medical situation."
