Torres creates a hexiprismatic field surrounding the remains so it can act as a compass that will lead them to the other sporocystian lifeform (in
[#1 and #2 Caretaker], the being known as the Caretaker had informed Janeway that there was another like him), and Voyager finds itself at an Ocampan colony under the guidance of the Caretaker's mate named Suspiria (where the crew learn that her species is called the Nacene). The Doctor runs a microcellular analysis of the remains and discovers a critical enzyme in the cellular structure. Tuvok accordingly develops an energy weapon capable of breaking down that enzyme to cause temporary paralysis in similar sporocystian lifeforms.

MEDICAL REPORT:
Tuvok continues to instruct Kes in the use of her mental abilities, but when Kes tries to show him what she has learned from the Ocampan male Tanis, she accidentally puts Tuvok's cell membrane through hyperthermal induction resulting in a 37 degree rise in his blood temperature in seconds, putting him in shock. The Doctor restricts him to light duty for the next three days, but Tuvok refuses, citing the Vulcan healing abilities.

MEDICAL PERSONNEL:
Kes' classes with Tuvok (see above MEDICAL REPORT) are at 1500 hours and recently have been running over, causing her to be late for her duty shift in Sickbay.
DOCTOR'S QUOTE:
To Kes after her lesson with Tuvok: "You're late. Today, yesterday and the day before. You'd think a Vulcan would be more attuned to punctuality."
