ELOGIUM
Season 1 : Episode 18

MEDICAL REPORT:

KES Kes experiences increased clectrophoretic activity in her nervous system, causing a premature occurrence of the elogium. The elogium is the once-only time in life, which occurs normally in a mature Ocampa woman i.e. aged about three, during which time she is able to mate and bear a child. Her body temperature increases by more than 3.9 degrees, and her pulse and blood pressure are incredibly high.

the Doctor summons Janeway when Kes locks herself in his office, and Kes confides in Janeway about the elogium

Normally, she would ask the captain to take the place of her parents in performing the rolisisin, a pre-mating ritual, but since Janeway is busy Kes chooses the Doctor instead. Since the activity of the swarm caused the premature elogium, the Doctor believes that Kes may go through the process again at the proper time.

ENSIGN WILDMAN Later, xenobiologist Ensign Samantha Wildman (her first name is first given in click for MEDICAL LOGS episode entry [#37 Deadlock]) reports that she has just discovered she is pregnant. She and her husband, who is stationed on Deep Space 9, had been trying to have a child before she left on her mission, a mission that was expected to last only three weeks. It seems odd that Wildman would just discover that she is pregnant by her husband six months into their mission; while this does happen to some women, normally bodily changes including an increase in size would be earlier indicators. However, in click for MEDICAL LOGS episode entry [#33 Dreadnought], Wildman reveals that the father is Ktarian, which presumably accounts for the difference in prenatal development.

DOCTOR'S QUOTE:

To Neelix who is fussing over the patient, Kes: "This is my Sickbay, and I will decide what goes on here. GET OUT!"
