MEDICAL LOGS
EMANATIONS
Season 1 : Episode 9
MEDICAL REPORT:
At the same time that Kim disappears (to the Vhnori home world) from a Class-D planet, the body of a recently deceased alien woman appears on Voyager's transporter pad in his stead. The Doctor is able to revive the dead woman, named Ptera. He describes his treatment of her: "It's a simple process really. She died of a cancerous growth on the brain stem. I removed the tumour, replicated new neural tissue and used the standard Starfleet post-mortem resuscitation technique for a class 5 lifeform." He then wakes her by giving her a hypospray injection of 2 c.c.'s of netinaline which is a pharmaceutical stimulant for awaking a patient from unconsciousness. She becomes hysterical when she realises she is not in the Next Emanation, her people's term for their idea of the afterlife, and the Doctor is obliged to sedate her.

Banking on the theory that the subspace vacuole at the site of the Cenotaph chamber device sends the dead to the Class-D planet, Kim manages to escape the attentions of the Vhnori thanatologists. He gains the aid of an elderly Vhnori man scheduled for the Transference Ritual, who swaps places with Kim. Kim discovers that the Cenotaph device, which features centrally in the Transference Ritual, commits euthanasia. When he is transferred through the subspace vacuole and collected by Voyager, he arrives dead. The Doctor revives him using 2 c.c.'s of cordrazine.
