MEDICAL LOGS
EYE OF THE NEEDLE
Season 1 : Episode 7
DOCTOR'S LOG:
Kes is surprised by how rudely the crew treat the Doctor because he is "only a hologram", so she asks Janeway if anything can be done to remedy the situation. Janeway visits the Doctor to discuss it - see EMH SPECIFICATION for the result of that visit; she tells him he should consider himself a fully-fledged member of the crew. The Doctor seeks Kes' help in choosing a name for himself - his search for a name continues on and off throughout Voyager's journey and will be resolved, at least in an unrealised timeline, by the year 2304 (see entry for
[#171 and #172 Endgame]).
EMH SPECIFICATION:
The EMH program is fully integrated into the Sickbay system and at present cannot be downloaded (it means that if the crew transport home other than in Voyager, the Doctor must be left behind).
After Kes complains about people's rude attitude toward the Doctor, Janeway visits him, discusses it, and tells him she intends to give him control over his own deactivation sequence and asks him to come up with a list of other suggestions which could help him inintegrating himself into the crew.

MEDICAL PERSONNEL:
Kes has begun her training as a medical assistant. The Doctor offers a PADD containing material on first aid for burns but she replies that she would like to do more than study first aid and would be interested in knowing more about anatomy and physiology. He likes it that she is intellectually curious, and hands her two more PADDs, one a large one, which deal with human anatomy and physiology but they were not written for the layman and are quite technical. She studies and assimilates the material he set her sooner than he expects. He opines that she may have an eidetic memory.
MEDICAL REPORT:
The Doctor treats Baxter for epicondylitis, strained ligament, torn muscle and hairline fracture, all sustained due to over-exercising in the gym (see screenshots above). Later, the Doctor was in the middle of preparing a culture to test Lieutenant Hargrove for the viral disease Arethian flu when Ensign Kyoto deactivated him. The result of the test is not indicated in the episode.
DOCTOR'S QUOTE:
To Kes: "Let's just say I've become accustomed to being treated like a hypospray."
