MISCELLANEOUS:

Holographic wine served at the bar in the holoprogram Chez Sandrine's cannot cause heart-burn, which, considering how popular the holoprogram becomes, will doubtless save the Doctor having to prescribe antacid on a frequent basis.

MEDICAL REPORT:

The Doctor suggests that a way of treating the injured 'cloud' lifeform's wound would be by using the equivalent of the historical medical technique known as the suture. Voyager uses a nucleonic beam to imitate the technique to bring together the edges of the wound, leaving it to the organism's natural processes to accelerate the healing. The Doctor's explanation runs as follows: "As inspiration I've drawn on an ancient medical technique known as a suture. Before the advent of laser technology surgical fibre was used to stitch together a wound to allow it to heal naturally. Your ship's energy systems are compatible with this lifeform's omicron particles, are they not? Then it is very likely this vessel could serve the lifeform's needs in much the same manner as a suture. By allowing the ship to serve as an energy conduit across the wound, the lifeform should be able to regenerate itself more rapidly."

the Doctor, who has been muted, waves his arms to attract attention then, once audio is restored, prompts Torres to provide the answer: "If the lifeform has a nucleogenic structure, nucleogenic radiation ought to assist its healing process. A nucleonic beam along the edges of the breaches should theoretically promote regeneration." The Doctor clicks his fingers: "Bravo."

Voyager applies the equivalent of a suture, on the Doctor's advice, to speed up the lifeform's healing process
