MEDICAL REPORT:

Lieutenant Joe Carey, acting chief engineer, is treated for a broken nose received from Lieutenant Torres when she lost her temper. His nose was broken in three places and the Doctor has to reset the ethmoid fossa. Numerous crewmembers, including Kim, are affected by the quantum singularity and experience severe headaches, muscle spasms, and dizziness.

EMH SPECIFICATION:

The EMH program was designed with information drawn from over 2,000 medical reference sources and the experience of 47 individual medical officers. He says he is "the embodiment of modern medicine." He can operate only in the confines of Sickbay because that is the only place on the ship where holo-emitters are installed. The EMH channel is monitor input 47. Janeway says she will look into linking the Doctor's program into the ship's database so he will be aware of what is happening on the ship.

DOCTOR'S LOG:

The singularity has an effect on the EMH projectors, causing the Doctor to shrink in size at a rate of five centimetres every hour, making it difficult for him to reach his patients.

Janeway, turning to the Doctor's channel, sees that his visual parameters are faulty

Despite several requests, the crew do not visit to rectify the problem as they are too busy with other matters. By the time Paris arrives to deal with the problem, the Doctor is so short that even standing on his chair seat he cannot see over his desk.

MEDICAL PERSONNEL:

Paris is 'volunteered' by Janeway to train with the Doctor as a field medic, on the basis that he studied biochemistry at Starfleet Academy for two semesters.

MEDICAL ADMINISTRATION:

The EMH channel is monitor input 47. The Doctor requests various individuals turn to the Emergency Medical Holographic channel in a number of episodes: this one,  [#6 The Cloud],  [#23 Parturition],  [#25 Tattoo],  [#33 Dreadnought],  [#39 The Thaw],  [#40 Tuvix], and  [#46 The Swarm]. In  [#43 Basics, Part 2], when he receives an incoming message on it, he calls it "the emergency channel". Apart from this episode the channel number is not mentioned but after this episode it will be called "the Emergency Medical Holographic channel".
